FEL quick connect wear, gets loose ?

A kubota dealer told me today that the current JD quick connect loaders all wear quickly and become very loose after not many hours of work. Very easy and quick to connect and detach but wears badly. Is there any truth to this ?

    thanks,

    Not that I'm aware.

I don't know what defines "current", but mine is now 11 years old and I've seen no issues nor believe it's getting loose.

I've heard this from a few places. What they are talking about is the way the new roll-off loaders work. They place most of the stress on a 1/4in piece of plate steel and the way the design is they'll slop around some over time. Frankly, I don't think I've ever read a post from an actual owner who has experienced this, but they have only been on the market for a few years. What Deere is selling is really nothing new. New Holland had made a loader that worked this way a few years ago. Deere often rehashes old technology and slaps a snazzy name on it.

Its unfortunate the dealer felt he needed to sway you this way. There are many very good features about Kubota's product. (like, it also removes in about two minutes time and most every Kubota loader has higher lift capacities, better cycle times, and a lower price). There is no need to pick on the competition.

Are there particular models you are looking at?

I guess mine is a different setup if they've only been in the market for a few years.

Thanks for all the input !

yes, I have been looking at the 2520 JD and the B2630HST Kubota. Here in Australia that Kubota would cost me $4,000 more with the FEL and a 4' 6" slasher than the same configuration 2520.

I have just ordered a 2520 so hopefully you wont tell me I made the wrong choice !

    thanks,

The 2630 is a bit more tractor, but certianly not $4000 more tractor. The Deere is a fine machine. I am sure you'll be happy with it.

Thanks. I have bought a 2520 JD and have only played around with it for half an hour or so. Waiting to get the chance to try it out properly but so far it looks good. For its size and weight using teh FEL the engine has more than enough HP. Got a 4'6" slasher too.

    cheers,
    Seedar.

Doesn't appear you need my two cents, But... I have owned the kubota L4330 and have recently traded for the John Deere 4720. There are several engineering quirks with the kubota that drove me nuts. The biggest one is bolt on front weights and not easily bolted on, going from loader to bushhog daily was a real pain. And here in Wisconsin USA, John Deere was cheaper than going up to the new kubota L5740.

o-yeah The John Deere Is sooooo much more of a tractor, I don't believe you will ever regret your choice

Re: FEL quick connect wear, gets loose ?

On the newer J.D.loaders(200C/CX,300/C/CX,400X/CX) there are provisions to adjust for wear or looseness between the loader mounts and masts. On the older series (410,420,430,460) there are slotted holes in the front frame to accomplish the same function, but most folks don't adjust these because the loader only seems loose when it's empty (when it's loaded the loader rocks forward onto the front support). You can tighten up these older units by welding up the wear points (worn areas) where the masts connect to the rear mounting frames (torque tubes).Hope this helps.mnot
