    Kubota ZD28

The 3 ZTR's that interest me are the Kubota ZD28, the Ferris IS5000 with the 31.5 hp Cat diesel, and the newly developed Hustler 34 hp Cat diesel, all with 60 inch decks.  Any thoughts on these machines?  Tony

    I have thoughts!

I sell the Ferris and Kubota. IMO, Ferris makes a very nice mower. The suspension is great and their baggers are very well designed. The down side - the diesels are crazy expensive. The Kubota ZD has an very well designed transmission and has build quality thats clearly a step above anyone else in this market. Price wise if you are looking diesel they are as good as it gets. Both are good machines, I think Kubota is the best value for most people... Ferris probably has an edge in the commercial market.

I been runnning our 2004 ZD-21 with 60" ProDeck this past year and I must say I am amazed at how well this thing is engineered. It is a dream to operate, powerful, quiet (you can actually hear yourself think without any earplugs!), super tough deck, and extremely well designed. Only let down is why I did not have something like this years ago....

My thoughts exactly. I sell Ferris, Cub Cadet, Steiner and Woods all along side the Kubota ZD's and I have a really hard time being objective and letting my customers decide what they like best. There is a place for the other mowers, but dang those ZD's are nice... and priced well to boot, I don't think anyone else sells a diesel well under 10 grand.

Check the Kubota USA site, they are also releasing the new ZD-25 this year with a larger displacement (more torque) ZD-25 model.

I don't think that with my 60" ProDeck I wiould ever need anymore power, but perhaps with a 72" deck this would fit the bill.

I agree about the power, its got more beef than most other mowers I've driven. I can't image the 28/60. The 25's look solid, they have the heavier drive train from the ZD28 and price right between the two.

    Re: Kubota ZD28

My friends Ford 8N is down and in the shop so I loaned him the ZD-21 to mow about 8 acres of bahia grass pasture, he thought the thing was too small for the job but I told him no problem. He'd never used a zero turn before and I told him it would take him 15-20 minutes to get used to it. Just use about 1/4 throttle on the two foot tall topped out bahia and if it gets too thick about 1/3 throttle.

When I came back over to pick up the ZD21 he was coming in off the pasture and was SMILING EAR TO EAR. He could NOT believe what an awesome machine this thing was. Perfect powerful cut, super quiet (no ear plugs) and hardly used 3/4 gallon of diesel fuel.

Now he wants to get one!!!

    Re: Kubota ZD28

I'm about to purchase a zero-turn mower to maintain my 7.5 landscaped acres. I have looked at Kubota and Scag. Any thoughts on which brand has the highest overall quality/price? Also, I'm not sure whether a 60" or 72" deck is better for me. I have lots of grass to cut in wide-open space so the 72" seemed the obvious choice at first to a novice like me. However, I have had several people mention that 72" decks typically don't make a very smooth cut. Any words of wisdom?

    Hello

I am interested in purchasing a ZD28 for the Assembly Hall Of Jehovah's Witnesses in Grantville, PA. Do you offer discounts to churches and non-profits?

What is the best price you could give us? I may also be interested in the mulching and striping kits.

    Thank You,

    Mike Thompson

You will want to check with a local dealer. Kubota does offer a discount to non-profits.

I worked for Cheyenne Kubota for some time, I demo'd the ZD28 to several golf courses and such and was extreemly impressed. We run Hustler Super Z's with the Kohler FI 27 hp gas engine now. I personally would have opted for a diesel, but at the time I didnt have much pull. I will say that I am extreemly happy with the Super Z's, me being the one that has to fix them. We run 5 of them, and have the grounds maintenance contract for an Aif Force base in Wyoming, so far we have on average around 1600 hours on each machine. Compared to the Scag Z-turns with Kawasaki engines, the Kohler Super Z's are by far a better machine all around.
