    Chipper/Shredder attachments?

I'm a new BX24 owner, got the tractor about 6 months ago, haven't had much time to play with it yet. Got post hole attachment (have not even mounted it yet), belly mower and a Box scrapper (works better than expected) also got a tooth bar for FEL, I would recomend this to anyone that wants to do any digging! makes a big improvement. I was wondering if anyone has input on Chipper/shredder attachments? I would really like one with a blower/raised discharge shute, but most are close to the weight limit for the 3pt on the BX. The big brand around here is Bear Cat and they make a unit designed for the Sub compacts but it only has an optional small discharge that looks like it would plug up with any wet material. the unit I like weights in at 720lbs not sure the BX can handle it?

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new BX.

Sorry, but I can't advise on a specific brand.

My experience with chipper/shredders is that they're like boats.  Your 2 happiest days with it will be the day you bought it and the day you sell it.

I've found that it's a lot more time and work (not even counting the incredible noise) to chip/shread  then what you get out of it.  I prefer to burn or otherwise dispose of the branches and if/when needed, go to the township (or whomever else has a pile of chips) and load up a trailer.  Around here, chips are free.

Woods TCH4500, but that does not blow it up. The Wood 5000 can have a blower, but like said... these get to big pretty ackward on that size tractor.

The woods brand I've found is actually made by Bear Cat (a division of Echo) and around here it runs about $200 to $500 more for the same thing, The THC4500 is the 77454 or SC45540 in 2007 & 2008 model numbers for Bear Cat I think.  This is the model made for sub-compacts, The 5000 is the 70554/SC5540. I have looked at this woods and other the name on it, its an exact copy of the Bear Cat. This is the one you can add a blower to but it must be removed every time you need to get to the blades to sharpen. I don't think this unit would be any problem it's listed as 450lbs. My 48" box blade weight ia almost that much. The one I would really like is the SC5540B, the numbers would imply that this is a SC5540 with a blower but I called Echo and found that its a totally different unit and weight is 720lbs! 3pt on BX24 is listed as 990lbs at point and 660lbs 24 inches behind.  Still looking and may go see if my local dealer will mount one to see if the BX will lift it.

I have a BX23 and I bought a Jinma 6 inch.  It was brand new and cost about 1500.00.  It's weight is about 800lbs.  The tractor has no problem lift it, however it's a bit precarious when driving.  I pretty much bring the branches to a neutral location and then put the chipper on.  By the way, I'm currently selling my BX23 and looking to get a L3240.
