Equipment Review

Can anyone tell me if there is such a thing as a front mount cutter that can mount on my TZ22 quick hitch? I would not care if it is self powered or runs off tractor although that is prefered. I would like to cut some walking paths in my woods this spring before they get all grown hp so I can see the underbrush areas better... I dont like the idea !

Any suggestions ? I am thinking of  like a 48 or 60" cutter? like land pride or KKutter etc.

 

Front mount?  Why not a standard 3-point-hitch cutter.  They're a proven method and available anywhere at reasonable prices.

I guess the answer is I had one on a tractor many years ago.. not rotary but finish and kinda liked having a mower out front it seemed quite practical instead of driving over what you are going to mow first !

How big of a tractor was that?

Agreed that it would be nice to mow first and drive over it second but otherwise, I'm mentally seeing all kinds of issues with it out front.

Assuming it would use the loader mounting, that's a lot of weight out there.  Also wondering what could/would get bent if you hit something.

In which direction would it discharge (side or rear)?  If rear, that would be sending all the clippings/sticks/rocks back at you and your tractor's underbelly.  I had a mower on the front of my ATV but the dust coming back was cause enough for me not to like it.

Does your TZ have a mid-PTO?  If not, coming off the rear PTO and through a gearbox to point a shaft towards the front can get pricy.

BC - The tractor I had before was a bit smaller than a CUT but larger than lawn tractor. It had a side discharge and yes it had some issues like blowback in the wind. but then again so does my 60" MMmower. I liken it to something like a 'grasshopper' and the '0 radius' tractors..! 

 

 Just seemed like a good Idea.. i like to keep my trails in my woods trimed ! and a pathe across my field to our barn and other house. etc.

My tractor has a mid PTO and rear.( obviously controlled seperately) !.. I have a quick hitch on the front that will handle a broom, and snowblower with a PTO extention that runs off the mid..

Just thought it could be neat if it went on the front and could use the attachment hook up I already have.

 

 

Well, I can't think of a North American manufacturer or distributer that handles front mount mowers like what I believe you're looking for.  I believe there's some Italian made stuff out there.  Maybe Caroni?

I'd just hate for you to hit something and have the tractor break.

Any way you could fab something that goes from a 3-point-hitch setup onto your front quick attach (and then use a 3-point rotary cutter off the front?  This also generates safety concerns in my mind.  Where do you point the discharge?

A read-mount rotary cutter would still be my preference.  Driving over the area first does have some benefits (e.g. if there's a hidden log or rock, you have a chance of your tires hitting it first and giving you a chance to stop before the blades get to it).

Your not the first person to ask for mowers on the quick hitch. I am not sure why they don't try somthing.. it seems like it would not be too hard to overcome the limitations.

Oh good.. i thought I just had to many wierd ideas.. I would think given there are grasshopper and zero turn radious mowers out there that this must not be all that bad.. reality is BC has some good points about rocks etc..
