Want to buy a loader backhoe

    Hello All,

I am interested in buying a loader/backhoe for landscaping projects and building retaining walls as well as snow removal in the winter.  Can anyone recommend a good, reliable machine that would be easy to use as well as handle some good sized boulders.  Thanks.

First we need to know more. How many acres will you be landscaping? Kubota has some really good compacts out there. There newest is a the TLB59 boosting 59 HP.  They also have smaller units. Check them out at www.kubota.com or go to the forums on www.tractorbynet.com

Thanks for replying.  It is only 3 acres.  Most of it is trees.  The main thing we would probably be using it for is building retaining walls, so we will be doing some digging with it.  I don't plan to use it for anything commercial so the usage will be pretty light after we finish the walls and do some grading.  Thanks again for the info.

Oops some of my post is missing. I am not sure what happened. There is another site that you can visit that has hours of reading on tractors and backhoes. Try www.tractorbynet.com. What you shoud do is go look at a few TLB and see what size fits your needs.

I wouldn't have a question with your 3 acres, but, I would like to know how long your driveway is. I personally will only deal with Kubota TLB's. I have run many hours on a John Deere 110 and even ran the new Yanmar cbl40. The main reason I like particular Kubota's, being L39, L48 in particular is that these are true designed commercial machines, No need to climb off and then climb on another seat to run the backhoe,, Also these machines use 3 pumps, one for steering as all machines have, one main pump and the 39/48/59 machines also have a third pump for backhoe swing,, Someone else posted about about trying a Kioti machine, Although they are a very good tractor, they are not commercial designed, tow instead of three pumps and we're back to the constant climbing off the tractor to climb onto and use the hoe and vise versa each time you need to move machine,,, Also again, my pick would be the L39, small, very powerful, get a thrid valve and you can run a power angle snow plow as I do on my L48, and also many other skid steer attachment type implements...

Larry, are you sure you ran John Deere 110?  They only have one seat that you flip over.  There is not two seats like you described (at least the current models only have one).

And the new 110 has operating controls from the backhoe.  Use it to drive the tractor without leaving the backhoe.

     Yes,

I have run the 43 hp 110 probably close to 20 hours, I should have added the 110 and cbl40 to the L39-48 and M59 that I mentioned above,, Other than the 39-48-59 cbl40 and jd110, the rest are not commercial machines, and operate off one pump unless someone add's in a PTO pump. Either way, you will climb off machine and climb seat to use hoe.
