Re: Setting up for trail riding

a good friend of mine use to say "you must be reading my mail" when we would get on the same train of thought...ordered the high rise intake yesterday. and started fabricating a rear window guard, dealer said it would be first to second week of September before he could get a guard...think we can do better than that and be a little less money..removed the spark arrestor this morning...after 6 hours it was already starting to smut up...other than the tires and ya'lls comments on the "two stage" transmission any other trade secrets you care to share...just down in your neck of the woods last week...if it doesn't stop raining you might need those 589's before Nov

        Link,

Where do you call home ?

Anyway, the other secrets, grab yourself a pair of front mudflaps V-4236 mudguards , keeps the mud from gettin' thrown and caking up under your cab.

This will be my attempt at posting pictures of my XTR tires . They are 27" tall ( wide in the front and 11 " in the rear. Link, what about the BBQ and fried catfish?? I'm hungry already. I going to ARK in the am and get me some!!!. My cousin is a catfish farmer there. I tried to convince him how easy a RTV would be to get in and out of when he was checking the ponds. But with feed going up $$XX  big time,he will just try to keep his head above water. no pun intended.

I forgot to "sign out" on that last post. This has been the wettest August I ever remember. We have standing water in many fields. I am glad of my "grippers" or I would have been stranded already.  You will enjoy 'shopping the different tire brands,, that's half the fun. Don't forget to get Two Guns highly proclaimed Slime and you'll never go flat  whatever tires you decide on. Bordercollie

Yep...failed to mention Abe's barbque and the fried catfish...Slime is a great product...have some in my Polaris...wouldn't go to the woods without it...my techs just got thru rigging up the 1100 to demo RTK precision steering to potential clients...basically you push a button and the machine steers in a straight line until you take control of the steering wheel again..used in row crop operations primarily cotton in our area...accuracy is sub inch...we got some stares today zipping along at 15 to 20 mph in a large field next to a road in town with no hands on the steering wheel...did have the seat belts on...afraid this may limit time in the woods with this rig...oh well...maybe able to get it away when my guys aren't looking!!

Re: Setting up for trail riding

we do lots of hunting...but we primarily purchased the 1100 to put that rig on in the picture..we had to tie into the front orbital steering motor and install two valves under the bed...waiting on the air filter kit since we had to remove it from where it was (would have any way..that location is horrible from a hunting, working vehicle standpoint)...will be using the 1100 to demo a GPS RTK steering system used in agriculture for sub inch accuracy steering and precision rate application and sprayer control...before getting this had to go to customers farm and install on one of their machines so they could see system operate...would usually rain or something after putting it on and we would have demo tied up for a week or more..now we take the 1100 to the farm...customer sits in cab with one of my techs and gets to see how it works...then the tech lets him take over and see how easy system is to operate...HOPEFULLY customer says yep I want one on my tractor or combine or cottonpicker or sprayer/spreader...then if we sell enough I can get another one to hunt out of!!! Didn't realize how much we would like having this as a hunting vehicle... and yes, with a little work, I guess we could figure out a way to put heat seekers on it!!  Check out the system @ www.gpsfarm.com

Link, that's a pretty cool autopilot system.

Years ago I worked on a high seas research vessel that had one of the first GPS receivers.  The Navy loaned it to us to try out.  First, it came aboard by crane because it was so heavy and big - at least the size of 3 or 4 refrigerators.  It was literally a huge "black box".  Then it took a couple of hours for its computers to calculate a fix - which was only one line of position which means that we were on a point somewhere along that 100 mile line.  ( I think there was just one satellite in the beginning.) And, by the time we got the fix, we were 3 hours from the point where the fix was taken so it wasn't much of a help except to know where we had been - sort of.  I think I did better with my sextant...

So I'm always amazed at the instantaneous fixes, the microscopic size, and the incredible accuracy of today's GPSs.  Your unit steers to fractions of an inch which is really amazing.

Re: Setting up for trail riding

It is really amazing what these things will do...latest ugrades allow unit to lose signal from RTK base station (trees in the way, etc.)  and still run off WAAS (6" to 10"accuracy) until unit can get lock on base station again...then it automatically switches back over...have come a long way in a relatively short time...my Dad says all he wants is for the thing to just let him get in it in the morning, press a button and drive him to his stand and back...told him that wasn't a problem..he is not sure if I am kidding or not...truth is...I am pretty sure it will !!!  May have to post some video
