    John Deere 2320 v. John Deere 790?

I'm looking to buy a tractor to work my 9 acre plot.  Will use tractor to clear  about 3-4 acres to prepare for pasture.  Will add loader, backhoe, chipper, wood splitter and brush hog.  Probably need a blade or rake too.

My dealer is high on the 2320 (he has in stock), but I found a nice 790 with very low hours used.  Any thought on which would be better machine for the task?

The 790 is older technology, not a big deal, but its not as refied as many other tractors. For what your talking about doing just about any tractor with descent ground clearance will work just fine. One word of advice, don't try and run a log splitter off the tractor. You'll spend more money in valves and plumbing to make it work than you will just to buy a self contained splitter. The self contained ones also work faster and have more power.

Thank you very much for the reply.  Also, thanks for the advice on the splitter.

When you say any tractor will do, do you think a smaller machine would work.  Something like the 2305?  And what is comparable to the 2320 in Kobuta or Other?

For what you've got in mind I probably would not go any smaller. You could also consider the Kubota B7510/B7610 or B2320/B2620 (just released) or the New Holland TC21/TC26 (typicaly more expensive). I'd also look at the Kubota BX24, it is smaller, but its priced very well for a tractor/loader/backhoe. You pay about $4400 for the backhoe on this machine, but on any other you'll spend close to $6000 or more.
