         Update ~~~

Tommy finally was able to give me a call on his cell, he & family is safe, but they still have much messed up.  They lost much trees & property.  Also heavy damage to his home......  Going to be several weeks, if not much longer before they get electricity to his place. Terrabourne & Lafourche Parishs were hit very, very hard !!!!  Keep our man in your prayers >>>>.

    Re: Post -Gustav

That's EXACTLY what we were talking about this evening. We are a few hours away from him, and we are having to replace our roof on our home, ( parts of it was ripped off ), trees,  metal buildings torn to pieces, and the list can go on.  There are thousands of acres of crops lost. Out on the plantation, there was a fair bit lost, including pecan & oak trees, hundreds of years old.  We got more damage in our area on this, than the Katrina storm.  So one can imagine what they went threw down there....  There are many places around here still without electricity.  One cannot imagine what in the hell them folks went threw down in Tommys area !!!!

The remnants of hurricane Gustav, dropped 11 inches of rain on areas on the plantation, during a 24-hour period ending Wednesday morning, and a total of over 19 inches since Sunday !!!!

I have a sister, that lives in West Feliciana Parish, ( St. Francisville, LA. ) , and that WHOLE area is nothing but a historic town. That place is torn to pieces. Many, many old oak trees around the old plantation & antebellum homes, are just twisted and down . Them trees has been there for God knows, hundreds and hundreds of years ~~~~ they are lost.  She said that they received so much more wind and damage there than Katrina ~~~~

I would imagine the only reason that folks don't see it on the news as much as Katrina, New Orleans did not flood this time. Which is a blessing alone. But doesn't mean that hundreds of thousands of other good folks has not been hurt by this storm !!!!! They need to focus on the whole state, ( states )  not just the Big Easy ~~~~~~

    Hey Two Guns,

Since you're in contact with Tommy, ask him if there's anything we can do for him from far away.  Is there anything he needs that we can ship to him?

Sorry to hear that the area has been ravaged by the storm. :-(

    Re: Post -Gustav

I will do......   Naturally, I ask him the same question yesterday, and he said that there is nothing that can be done. But plans are to stay in touch with him, everyday, and will ask again.....

As you know, there is another bad storm headed hear again, maybe it will " fizzle-out" or just go away, but we know things like that just don't happen, makes one think that Louisiana is a magnet for bad storms ~~~~

Tommy's running on generators as of now, and probobly will be for awhile.....

    RTV Forum Members:

Seems like we most all of us have been blessed with health and material things to one degree or another. While I'm not a rich person by any stretch of the imagination, (I don't have an RTV yet---LOL), if there is anything I can do, or other forum members (who know of Tommy or other Forum members affected by these hurricanes and flooding), might consider, count me in.

And if that hasn't been bad enough, another storm-hurricane, Ike, is brewing in the Southern Ocean. The weather forcasters have plotted models that indicate it might also be headed into the Gulf Coast Region.

Do give my thoughts to Tommy and family too  please and of coarse count me in as well.. In my opinion, Katrina was more powerful and caused serious wind damage even way up here in central Miss. And it was the lawless -ness everywhere that was so freaky. Ya'll would have a hard time sleeping if you knew what I knew about that..... Our land neighbor lived in Biloxi and was within seconds of dying in a "secure" hotel that had survived Camile. She grabbed her pup ,as her shoebox of cherished possessions was swept away and crawled her way up another floor.  Those hard hit parishes/counties  that should be declared a disaster area  will probably have programs to help  farmers with clean up depending on the diameter of the tree blown down. hopefully farmers that lost their crops  will receive aid as well . check with NRCS  The amount is small but should cover low end costs..Bordercolllie

I feel the pain that all of you have had to bear with this latest storm.  To most of us our homes are everything to us. Please let us all know what we can do to help.

we gonna make it .the worst thing is the livin off the generator  and havin power half a day. it cost to much to run it 24/7  so we just run it at night to feeze up the house and the freezers.i bet if you went down any street in terrebonne parrish and they had 30 utility poles probably 20 of them are bent to the ground or just plain old snapped in half . there  is a mall a few miles away and they are useing it for the pole depot anyways they have about 200 poles wiating in there to be put up. walamrt opened yesterday but they ain't really had much of nuthin to buy ayways. today i'm gonna try and get another meter pole for my home and get it cemented into the ground . a oak tree took out my otherone so even if they was to turn the power on i would still be without til i get my pole up. well let me go for now got to turn off my life suport unit til night times.later.

Not only is it a great feeling that we might miss " IKE",  purchased several more Onan generators and was scheduled to be delivered to my shop Wednesday or Thursday, But received word from the freight company that it might be Monday or Tuesday of next week ~~~~~~  That's ok, there is a reason for everything !!!!
