Strengths Strong powerful engine, never fails to start. It is a very good looking machine. Seat is more comfortable than any other rifing mower I have owned. Riding height is perfect for me.
Weaknesses If you get the 54" deck, be sure your property is flat (level) because any uneven ground will cause one side or other to dig a furrow in the ground. Belts slip a lot (I have 240 hours on this machine now). Tire traction is iffy in any slipery conditions - it cannot get itself out of even shallow mud. Tow plate is too thin and bends if pulling heavy weight (like dragging a log with a chain). My left pant leg gets caught on the roller upright every time I get off the tractor. The arm rests cannot be lowered when cutting grass near low trees or you won't be able to bend over enough to not get smacked by a limb, yet in the upright position, they get snagged on the limbs constantly. I have removed them. At time of delivery, all four tires were over-inflated and had wildly different pressure readings. I discovered this was because the dealer knew the tires go flat all the time - they do not hold air well, so I have had to put that tire-inflator goo in all of them. Engine now blows smoke at every start up and runs-on after turning the key off, usually followed by a final dying POP. I do regular maintenace (to spec) and cleaning after every use, so this does not speak well of the engine logevity. The blades, in spite of being way too expensive, are not easy to change and they wear out way too soon, leaving a trail of uncut grass between the blades. The water-hose attachments for cleaning the deck worked only the first time I used this mower, then they became clogged and were impossible to unclog. This means I have to use a highrise jack and jack stands to get under the machine and scrape grass/dirt accumulations off the underside of the deck - if you don't clean this regulalry, the buildup causes uneven cutting paths. From day 1, only one headlight worked, but I don't care because I never mow at night anyway (why have headlights on a lawn mower? they don't illuminate anything in the daytime). The steering is tight (A Mac truck steers easier than this tractor) and was initially toe out. The alignment can be adjusted, however, but I wonder why quality control at the factory never checked this.
Overall In spite of all the negative comments, I like this tractor. I just wish I had bought a 42" deck instead of the 54" so there would be less gouges in the 10 acres I routinely mow.

Strengths Great Tractor, lots of power, nice smooth ride, cruise is nice. Nice wide cut.
Weaknesses Deck is too flimsy, spindles wear out fast ( I have replaced all of them (to the tune of $85.00 each) and I grease them every 3 hours.) Blades hard to change without removing deck.
Overall I hope it lasts a long time. I mow 3 acres each week. Cuts very nice when the deck isn't broke!

Strengths Not many to report. engine is powerful (at 27 HP it shoould be), cuts cleanly
Weaknesses steers like a Macktruck, front wheels have never tracked correctly (one wheel goes right, the other goes left, upright steel bar rear anti scalp wheel catches your boot laces and pants legs, pedals require you to be a giant, fist GT1554 carb was full of water, 2nd, GT1554 was low on oil, air pressure ranged from 7# to 21#, grease xerts refuse to accept grease, some fasteners were rusted when delivered, no paint primer used on mowing deck created rust within first 6 months, one headlight works, rear hitch too flimsy, low bar on discharge chute is a joke (entirely too soft of metal, bends when you hit an obstacle), mower deck takes a giant to change cutting positions, Kohler engine now smokes at starting with 170 engine hoours, parking brake is a real joke in terms of holding power. The chief engineer should be fired for such a poorly designed $3000 + garden tractor. Try to jack up the front end for blade changes, this is a real joke.
Overall The Cub Cadet GT1554 is the worst designed grass mower I have even seen. I have sold self locking fasteners to all manufacturers for over 15 years, their engineers must be high school science students. Home Depot flat out lied about finance free time perios.

Strengths Strong Motor.
Weaknesses The entire unit. Honestly, nothing but problems since day 1. As I'm writing this, I'm seething with anger as the frame is cracked AGAIN! This is the second time the frame has cracked on this POS. For a 54" deck, the spindle speed is too slow. There have been soo many issues with this, I can't even begin to address them here.
Overall It's crap. Buy a JD.

Overall VERY comfortable, feels very solid, and that 27 hp engine is fantastic.
Since my lawn is done for the season, I've been keeping my eye on the 2 acre unmowed field at the beginning of my development. It seems the township stopped cutting it sometime in late july.
There are ruts, slopes, and the grass was very long and full of leaves. The 54" deck absolutely amazes me - I only started to bog a little after I kept going over my clippings. It's my first time not using a mulching plug (it will be shipped to me), so I had to learn the proper way to blow the clippings down to the woods.
SO MUCH FUN! Put 4 hours on her. Topped off the gas tank after 2 hours, and it's on 1/2 now. So a little less than 1 gallon per hour I'm guessing - with hard mowing. Not bad at all! Controls are easy to access, mowing in reverse over ride worked as designed.
Put it through the paces with a hard workout and it passed with flying colors
And 0% financing for 36 months is awesome!

Strengths Compared to my preveous riding mower (Yard machine) this is very good.
Engine is not a noisy. Plenty of power. 54 inches of coverage keeps you smiling all the time. Love the electric PTO. Mowing speed is very good. Mowing while climing a hill doesn't stall the 27HP engine. I have about 1 and 1/2 acres to keep cut. I'm looking forward to lots of mowing this summer.
Weaknesses Noisy rollers. The foot pedal gets tiredsome even though you have the cruse control, you don't use it as much as you would think.
Overall Great tool for the farm/ranch.

Strengths Strong motor, 54"deck, deck wash is great, cruise, seat is very comfy, large gas filler and tank, cup holder, large tires.
Weaknesses Bagger clogs when cutting heavy spring grass.
Overall Excellent. Have 80 hours on it. No repairs needed(KOW). Deck wash is great if used immediately. I punish it with rough 3 acre yard, pull heavy loads.

Strengths Seat $ arm rests.best mowing tractor i have had.It has never lost power nomatter how high the grass. My tran belt has never slipped or has my deck belt ever come off.The deck is a 11 gauge steel. The bigger tires makes it alot smoother ride. The deck comes off easy a little harder to get back on but after you do it a couple times it's easy. It's alot better on gas than i thought it would be for no other reason you are getting done a lot sooner with the 54" deck.Grease fittings on deck spindles.
Weaknesses The engine is louder than i'm use to.must run wide open to keep the tran cool with the fan.Grease fittings are press ons i think?so you have to be careful.
Overall I'm very happy with the GT1554.But if you are looking for a garden tractor i would spend more and get into the 2500 series.I got the GT1554 over the SLT1554 for the larger tires, heavier deck and little heavier tran.
