Strengths -High HP
-Smooth running
-Solid feel
-54" deck
-Relatively big tires and beefy axles
-Foot pedal hydro
-Electric PTO
-decent 'gas milage' for the HP level
-Pressurized engine lubrication system w/filter
-Deck wash
-Ability to mow in reverse!
Weaknesses -Belt drive slips a little too easy (though I ask a lot of it, belt dressing spray makes all the difference.)
-Rear sub frame could be stronger for a tractor of this size and HP.
- 1 more MPH in the top end would be welcome, though it's no slouch.
Overall This tractor has a big deck, lots of motor, nice convenience features and large tires. It's lots of tractor for the money. Way better deal than the Deer's in the same category in my opinion. The Husky's and Craftsman's appear to have a slightly beefier frame and rear end, but they have no convenience features, no hydro, still belt drive, and are the same price per class. Most people don't use these tractors to their limits, so the slightly beefed up chassis wont make a diff.
I've put 15 hours on so far. I use the heck out of it on steep hills and harsh terrain. The oil still looked like new at oil change time. It cut's one mean swath of grass without flinching, and always runs like a top. Other than minor belt slipping problems on hills, I've been happy with the GT 1554.
