Strengths Only strength is the 27hp WHEN THE DAMN THING RUNS !!
Weaknesses Engine runs rough, can not get high speed or idle to
smooth out. Will crank only occasionally. Had to replace
starter @ 20 hours. Steering Gear at 45 hours. Rebuilt
carburetor 3 times to no avail. I guess next is to replace igniton coils !!! Replaced 2 spindles on deck @
50 hours. Unit is 5 years old and cost me $$$$$$ to
keep it going and only then part time.!!!
rides like a boxcar on a train.
Overall No manufacturer of anything should put this kind of junk
in the market place. NEVER AGAIN11

Strengths I have had so many problems with my two year old GT 1554 that it is hard to think of any real strenths. It does cut grass (though not well) when not being repaired.
Weaknesses The touted 5 year warranty is a real joke. When I read reviews prior to purchasing, the major weakness noted was in its carb. I asked my dealer about this and he assured me that it had been addressed. At the beginning of the second year, I had to have the carb rebuilt -- totally at my expense -- and the machine still does not properly run. I also had to install a new battery as it was no good -- again at my expense. The belt on the deck has a tendancy to come off and it is frequently difficult to start. This summer I noticed that the fuel line had come undone from the fuel pump. When I went to reattach it, the fuel pump literally fell apart. My most recent problem is with the steering. As I was driving I noticed that the steering had a great deal of play. I then discovered that one of the front wheels was about to come off the spindle and was only held on with a cotter pin (which had sheared) much like you would see on a kid's wagon. After putting the wheel back in with a new pin, The stearing gear became strippped and I suppose now I will have to have it replaced. Did I mention that the rollers recently fell off because the cotter pin that holds it together likewise sheared. This tractor is driven over fairly level ground and has less than 150 hours running time. I have had it serviced at the beginning of each year at the authorized Cub Cadet dealer where I purchased the mower. I have gotten no cooperation from him except a willingness to take my money for all the things which are not under warranty -- which is nearly everything. The extended warranty apparently only applies to the motor, so don't get suckered like I did.
Overall These tractors are manufactured by MTD. As a garden tractor they are touted as heavy duty. In fact, my experience has shown that they are poorly made. I will do everything in my power to avoid purchasing any product made by MTD in the future and would recommend that you do the same.

Strengths very reliable tractor. i have the kohler 27 horse power motor and seems durable. Has done good for starting new yard, seeding, rolling, and mowing.
Weaknesses we have replaced two deck spindles already, but our yard is new and still rough and uneven. The blades seems to struggle in thicker, taller than three grass. The choke was flooding the motor after the first winter
Overall overall this tractor has been doing a good job. we have a brand new yard and cub cadet mower has done it all. we have had this mower for 2 years now, and excepted to replace some parts as our yard is rough and uneven. I would buy another cub cadet at this moment

Strengths Love the high-speed deck. Just can't go fast enough to take advantage of it. Turns really tight (but scalps on every turn). Engine runs great, lots of power. Buying it from a Cub dealer I got the Kohler Command Motor instead of the Courage motor. Much stronger and longer lasting. Also got Thicker frame, Solid steel steering connectors (instead of stamped steel). Grease fittings on the Deck spindles and wheel spindles. Twice the warranty and $400.00 less than Home Depot or Tractor Supply.
Weaknesses Deck scalps a lot. On every turn and on any uneven surface.
Wish it had a full-floating deck.
No grease fittings on most pivot points. BAD CUB! I've added some after the tensioner pulley pivot bolt broke after only 45 hours.
Cub warranty sucks. After 15 hours, the relay that controls the PTO went south. For the warranty to cover it, I would have to take the mower in so they can take two weeks to fix it. Since I need to mow every week, I had to pay $25.00 for the part. John Deere would have given me the part. Two other parts have broken with the same thing happening. I've spent $100.00 in parts with less than 75 hours on the thing.
Can't use the cruise or it's high speed mowing ability, it bounces and scalps too much. My 1972 Allis Chalmers 312 cuts better and rides better. Every time I mow, I wonder what's gonna break next. Since I bought this thing, I've gone from mowing 3 acres to almost 7 acres. This Cub ain't going to last. The new feeling went away too fast.
Overall I'll not buy another. I'll pay more for something that's not MTD.
I can see a 10 or 15 thousand dollar tractor in my future. OUCH!!

Implements : Snow Plow / Blade
Purchased From : Tractor Supply
Strengths Seems to have good power overall. The ergonomics are good. Like the larger rear tires the GT offers. Decent Price Point.
Weaknesses Steering requires too much effort. Terrible Mulching performance in my primarily Kentucky BlueGrass Yard. Exhaust noise of engine is excessive. Fuel consumption seems excessive. Had to replace battery within 2 months of original purchase. Cub Cadets warranty support was subpar in my opinion on this matter.
Overall For my purposes of mowing and removing snow with blade. The tractor performs Average. Mulching is below average. Will most likely seek another brand for next tractor. I would probably give the GT1554 better reviews if the mulch function worked better very disappointed with that.

Strengths Power, no problem pulling 500 pounds up a steep embankment at an idle, 27 horses is power. Great engine, mine does not need to be choked every time. mows everything I have put in front of it, even up to 3 foot wild grass when mowing my pasture. I work it hard!
Weaknesses If you don't watch what you are doing, the power can cause problems like spindle replacement caused from trying to mow tall grass to fast (most common cause) I have replaced 4, it is not engineered for 27 horses. Dozer blade is designed poorly, ok for light snow but I need a ground encroaching took as advertised. Don't by Brinley, By Agri-Fab for blades
Overall Power House! I have to really watch how fast I mower so I don't throw a spindle, but overall I like it. Wish I would have bought a abigger one though.

Implements : mower deck
Purchased From : Lowe's
Strengths It's a pretty comfortable tractor, seat and driving position are comfy for long hours, controls are placed nicely. Kohler engine has been good- plenty of power, no issues with 230 tough hours.
Weaknesses Replaced two spindles, 4 belts, a pulley and the main tension spring so far on the mower deck. Placement of the fittings (even after removing guards) makes it harder than necessary to grease the spindles. Main drive belt gave out at 200 hours; so did the steering bushing. The cruise control no longer works. The "headlights" are a joke- the foil reflectors gradually fold over the light bulb so those twin 2-watters can barely peek out. Combine that with the dirt that piles up behind the non-cleanable lens, and you have dark. Real headlights would be nice. The seat mounting brackets are flimsy and I am sure will eventually break. I ended up disconnecting the safety (that disengages the PTO when you get off of the seat) as my wife would hit a bump and the mower would disengage. Cut quality is fair- leaves too many "ridges", especially when turning. Deck design doesn't work very well with mulching blades.
Overall If you have a lawn like a pool table, this would be a nice tractor- that's not saying much. Comfort is good, power is good, but durability and quality of cut are lacking.

Strengths great horsepower good cut i mow an average of 5 acres every weekend and the grass is primerily bermuda cuts excellent.more comfortable than my farm tractor, good fuel economy also.
Weaknesses steering effort high but not to bad.no grease fittings on deck spindles.blade hight adjustment needs more spring assist.as for needing choke when warm it's not your car! pull the choke and and go mow.
Overall excellent tractor poor set up from tractor supply no grease wheel fell off but i like the tractor overall.

Strengths Plenty of power, descent cut
Weaknesses Lots of problems...it has been in the shop 5 times in less than a year, carburetor issues (which I still don't think are fixed), front bushings had to be replaced already, bad ground on the battery. I also have the same issue with the choke that you always have to choke it to start it.
Overall More problems than it is worth. I would recommend staying away. Cub Cadet has been very uncooperative also so it makes it even tougher.
