Strengths No engine problems. Tires hold air.

Weaknesses Deck problems, Eradic steering, weak deck engage cable. Dech height adjustment does not move thru full range of settings. Center of gravity very high. Had this mower since 4/2010 and is in the shop now due to another idler pully coming apart for no reason other that inferior parts.

Overall Would not advise an enemy to buy this product.

Overall I just had my second motor replaced. Yes that is right the second motor. First one went out at 40 hours and the second one with 61 hours. I have a fairly small lawn that only takes an hour to mow, so it isn't getting used a lot. Dealer said they have replaced 15 of the Kohler motors in the last 3 years. Cub cadet covered both motors, but I will never buy another. I have also had the deck problems like others mentioned. Never again, too bad because I grew up with Cub Cadets.

Weaknesses every time I use it something breaks on the mower deck, can't afford 400 dollars every time I cut the grass..

Overall I have had my LT1042 for 3 years,not a problem just put a battery in it for the first time.118hrs on it!

Strengths Looks good and has plenty of power .

Weaknesses The PTO switch on my LT1042 is in a bad spot , I keep hitting with my knee , I take good care on my mower but it seems that every time I use it something needs to be fixed or tightend up .

Overall Cub has failed us , will not buy one again

Weaknesses To much Gas and Hydro Transmission would like to go back to the 4 and 5 speeds.

Overall I mow 3+ acres with it for the last 5 years, i do have some hills to mow and the Hydro Transmission is getting wore out, wishing it was some way to put oil in the transmission to keep it up.

Strengths Waiting to find any, if they are there at all. THe Kohler engine works but everything beside that is a nightmare! Maybe the cup holder, I do like that!

Weaknesses Poor constuction overall. I've replaced almost every part on the deck. Some multiple times. I usually shred about 5 belts per year. Local dealer says that is "sometimes normal". PTO is a yearly replacement as well. I level my deck and sharpen blades before each mowing to try and keep my yard looking halfway decent.

Overall MTD ruined Cub Cadet! Poor quality has destroyed a once reputable company. I will never do business with the local dealers or Cub Cadet again. I have spent more time repairing this mower than I have using it. The warranty is worthless and Cub Cadet dealers do not support their own products. Too bad.

Strengths none

Weaknesses everything. The 2 seasons this thing actually did work i was nothing but problems. poor blades, had to rebuild the starter, replace the ignition switch, and replace the drive belt multipule times. after two seasons the crankshaft bolt sheered off flush with the crank. Few shops would work on it and the ones who would wanted to charge as much as it would cost to buy a new mower. mowing deck is crap too, rusts very easily. PIECE OF JUNK.

Overall poor. do not buy a cub

Strengths Mine runs well, no engine problems. It is easy enough to mow around the obstacles in my yard.

Weaknesses The deck. Too bad because that is what I bought it for: mowing. I am on the 3rd belt this year, and it is early June. At $40 per belt plus an hour or two to change it, you may understand my irritation. I have less than 100 hours on this machine. Also, the small skid plate or bar under the front of the deck wore out quickly, and so did its replacement (another $30 or $40). I think the deck may be misaligned, mis-assembled or some such thing. However, it is out of warranty and the replacement would be about $800. After the first month the exhaust manifold developed a leak and melted the hood! The replacement hood was free, but it took several months to get one.

Overall Avoid.

Strengths Gets pretty good fuel economy on large lawns.

Weaknesses Seriously undependable!!! It has only 50 hours, and I'm about to take it back to the shop for repairs..... FOR THE 4TH TIME!!!! The Kohler engine in my machine is definitely a lemon. Two head gaskets, wire short once, then the blades locked up and wouldn't turn! I will never again buy a Cub Cadet!! And I wouldn't recommend it to anybody else.

Overall Undependable piece of junk. Sorry, Cub, go back to the drawing board!!!
