Strengths This thing Impressed me from the first ride! Mulches like a dream (I had the mulch kit installed), never had any clumping whats so ever. Nice turning radius! It's nice to mow while in reverse. Plenty of power. Easy to use with all funtions using just your right hand! They have up the quality on the 2009 year.

Weaknesses Could quiet the engine down a bit by using foam under the hood?

Overall Nice lawn tractor. I had a john deere prior to this, but could't justify the price of a new authentic one.

Weaknesses after 248 hrs we replaced the starter, steering bushing and gear, 2 mower belts and shaft seal, now the engine block cracked I cannot believe that this company could sell this product

Strengths

Weaknesses I bought the LT 1042. Got one season out of it. It has been nothing but problems. It has sheared off 4 PTO bolts flush with the crank shaft. That requires either replacing the entire crankshaft or drilling out old bolt and replacing. After the second bolt broke the clutch quit working and a new one is $250.00. The mower leaves a patch of unmowed grass between the two blades and has to be mowed twice. The back up safety switch also quit working. Dealer says "nothing warranted" but will give me $500.00 of my original $2000.00 purchase price on trade for a new one. They couldn't give me another one. My neighbor has a 10 year old John Deere and he has never had a problem.

Weaknesses deck is too thin and had to be welded at the aft hanger, plus the stiffener on the leading edge needed to be welded on. I do not abuse the LT1042 since it was not a cheap purchase @ $1800.00. I am disapointed in the deck constuction and quality of blades.

Overall a wee bit upset, only have 64 hrs and a rewelded deck.

Overall This LT1046 is great. I cut over one acre up and down hills and it has lots of power.I am on the forth season and have only had to change a drive belt and a battery this season.It has 150 hours on it running wide open.

Strengths Reliable if you know to do the following: Remove the cooling cowl and clean the rat's nest out of the cooling fins....especially on Kohler.....causes the engine to run hot and will eventually fall apart....especially the exhaust valve seat...causing the exhaust valve to stick,

Weaknesses Strong mower....needs to be taken care of...keep the blades sharp and your belts will last 3-4 years....mow tall grass on high.....don't try to till the earth.

Strengths Cub Cadet LT 1042 is very comfortable to ride when it is running

Weaknesses The Kohler is absolute JUNK. Have 136 hours on it and could not get it to run more then 30 mins. I tool off the engine cover to find bolts missing from engine case. 6 of the bolts I took out with my fingers. It looked like they never put it together. Now I find the engine block is cracked. Dealer of course said it was out of warranty and they could nothing about it. I WILL NEVER purchase another Cub Cadet and I will make certain everyone knows the poor workmanship this is. The dealer will also be lumped into my discuss of their product.

Overall DO NOT PURCHASE A CUB CADET PERIOD

Strengths kholer engine

Weaknesses blades and mowing deck as well as belts have been a night mare. 5 sets of blades that are so malable they droop and then turn into twist ties when they contact the ground. The mulching blades didn't make it over 75 yards after instalation before my lawn mower turned into a tiller. 8 belts in 2 seasons of mowing. 64 hrs of operation.

Overall Cub Cadet lost another customer due to reliability issues

Strengths Easy Start, level mow. Comfortable, adjustable seat and very comfortable steering wheel. The hydrostatic transmission has been very solid both summer and winter. Maintenance is a SNAP! Oil changes and grease fittings only. Mow in Reverse option very nice. Service reminder is very handy as well as digital battery status indicator. The Kohler Courage 19 has been flawless whether 95 degrees or minus 5 degrees!

Weaknesses Gas consumption is high. Value of the deckwash feature is questionable to me, not just on Cub but my neighbor's Craftsman as well.....seems to just make a green soup on the driveway. I did replace the stock battery with a heavy duty battery suitable for mid winter cold starts when sitting between snow falls.

Overall Very solid choice. I have 197 hours on it and and after almost 4 seasons it is still going strong. I added wheel weights, chains and a snow plow for winter. It is incredible in all temps with absolutely ZERO breakdowns. Although, I do wish the snowthrower attachment was a bit more affordable.....as much as the tractor was new! I'll have to stick with the plow.

Overall anybody notice there's no contact info on the CC site? strike 3, right there. the wonderful, sealed hydro transmission fluid has leaked out. drive belt replaced, piece of crap won't move. i'd love to sink this overpriced junk deep in the ocean and buy craftsman like i knew i should...bottom line: if you're looking for a new mower, and you really really like BIG HEADACHES and have an affinity for JUNK, BUY A CUB!!!!!
