Strengths You have got to be kidding! I know of very few! This mower is a model LTX 1040. Not to be all negative it does pretty good on fuel. The belts have not come off...yet! The tires stay up and the engine seems to be ok.
Weaknesses The deck is a piece of crap! The blades are interference and if you hit ANYTHING that is not grass, you are going to buy blades, spindles and possibly a deck! The first year I had this THING I replaced the blades twice and the spindles once and am now in the process of trying to locate a $289 deck! It never has cut even! I wish I had my Craftsman back. I had it for ten years and NEVER had problems like these.
Overall TERRIBLE! DO NOT BUY A CUB CADET! YOU WILL BE SORRY!! By the end of this summer I will have spent almost over have as much as I paid for the darn thing! Pathetic! Class action lawsuit sounds good to me!!!!!!!!!!!

Weaknesses Horrible tractor, I wish I would never have bought this! Purchased in September of 2008 and had nothing but trouble. Worked fine first summer we had it, (purchased in Sept) so not much use, the following Summer after less than 20 hours (and out of warranty) was ridiculously loud, poor performance and finally with less than 65 hours on it, it has died completely. I doubt that I would purchase another Cub Cadet.
Overall Terrible!

Strengths 23 hp kohler courage lots of power and great on gas!! I changed the oil over to a full synthetic oil. (valvoline 10w30) The engine runs much cooler and even noticed its even better on gas.
Weaknesses No problems with belts. PTO kept shutting off, so I unhooked the seat safety switch. No problems since.
Overall overall it out performs my john deer with ease.

Strengths Easy start; hydrostatic drive nice after useing standard shift for 30 years. Nice level cut. I use the #3 setting with the deck wheels just touching the ground.
Weaknesses After reading reviews about belts falling off and breaking. I looked at the deck pulleys. The pulleys should all be in line with each other, but the front idler pulley was 3/8" to high. This caused the belt to pull off the bottom of the pulley. This also explains the belt breaking due to the sharp edge on the pulley. I removed the pulley mounting bracket, then cut a 3/8" section out of it, so the bracket height would be lower. Welded the two pieces back together and they lined up perfectly with the adjoining pulleys. I have an acre and a half of grass which I've mowed a dozen times with no problems. The deck runs quieter now since it doesn't have the vibration of the belts be bent at odd angles. I'm going to check the drive belt pulleys next.
Overall Seems fair

Overall I posted this in 2008 when I bought the tractor. Since then the belt came off one time due to a stick wedging between the motor pulley and the belt. I checked the belt for wear and cuts whike it was off and only found normal wear with no cuts or cracks.
I just passed the 100 hour mark and have had no major problems with this tractor.

Strengths I'm not sure it has any except maybe that it is comfortable to ride and easy to operate
Weaknesses Kohler Courage engine Sucks!!! I shut it off came back 2hrs later and it wouldn't even try to start after much searching on the net found out that they had a problem with this engine shearing flywheel keys due to improper torque of the flywheel from the factory so I removed the cover and found the flywheel nut finger tight! and yes the key was sheared the cost for this repair was only $1.99 however my time should be worth something! Engine will not even turn over if temperature falls below freezing! Since I also use the tractor for snow removal I went to my local dealer and asked why it wont turn over when it's cold and was told it isn't supposed to start when it's below freezing because it's a lawn mower! So in winter I have to keep it in heated garage if I want to use my snow blade
Overall Poor Quality Piece of MTD Garbage!! Throws the belt every other time blades are engaged I think this is due to the idler spacer getting worn and allowing too much vertical travel of the idler pulley! I've ground it down and so far so good!

Strengths Heavy construction, (mostly). Plenty of power for me (LTX 1045). Nice cut.
Weaknesses Like others, I have trouble with the deck belt system but for another reason. Somehow, a stick got between the mower and the deck. It wedged between the belt and the left idler pully. The pulley is a very cheap 2 piece stamped metal that is not much thicker than a tin can. The stick completly flattened the pulley and destroyed it. Looks like they could have spent a few bucks more with steel pulleys like on the spindles. Make damned sure you check for anything that might have gotten between the deck and the mower before engaging the blade. I thought I had but just missed it. Before this, I never had a belt problem.
Overall Overall fairly heavy construction. Runs good and cuts great. Removing the deck is a snap compared to other mowers I have had.

Strengths Power, speed, comfort
Weaknesses Belt
Overall Belt broke after less than a year. Bought it last Summer, have used it maybe 15 times. Starts reliably except first start of the spring. Motor is loud. Cut is okay, my yard is lumpy so hard to tell if it's the mower or not. My yard is about 125x75, but I was cutting my neighbors yard last year as well, which is 125x100. Seems like a tough mower so far, only problem has been the belt breaking last weekend. Hopefully I won't be buying them on a regular basis at ~$30 a pop.

Weaknesses Belt keeps coming off, it has been in the shop numerous times for belt coming off. I will never buy another Cub Cadet. The manufactor will not stand behind product. I bought mower new and within two hours of operation it broke belt, I returned it to dealer and dealer kept it for eight days for repairs. After repairs were made same thing happened with nine hours on mower, I asked for my money back or a new mower, both dealer and Cub Cadet refused. DO NOT BUY A CUB CADET MOWER.
Overall I will never buy another Cub.
