Strengths nice size, easy operation, decent price, good speeds

Weaknesses the hood is held on with metal screws that go into plastic...already broken. The two small left wheels on the mower deck have already broken off. The 'L' structure which attached them to the deck should be modified to a braced wedge design. I am having to weld them AGAIN.

Overall Change the design of the above two problems, and it would be hard to beat this mower.

Strengths Love this tractor, after owning a Craftsman that always needed repair. I watch two of my neighbors own Cubs. I bought the 1046 at the local farm and tractor company. They set it up for me and went over everything before I left the shop.

Weaknesses Mulching could be better,but it is not an exact science.

Overall Would by another 1046 for my one acre yard. Does a great job handling the slopes in the backyard. I bought mine in 2010.

Strengths Very smooth ride. Motor seems strong. cuts very well

Overall Purchased this a few weeks ago. I have owned a JD 133 for the past 6 yrs. Going to this cub is like going to a caddy from an escort. The thing runs super. I would not buy from Lowes or Home Depot. I researched and they take short cuts over what you will buy from a reputable farm imp. dealer.

Strengths Absolutely None!

Weaknesses Engine burns oil like nothing I have ever seen. Smokes like it is on fire for the first 20 minutes after every start, even when warm. Difficult to start warm or cold. After only 20 hours the deck belt had been replaced 3 times and the transmission belt broke. Only has 100 hours on it and have gone through 2 more deck belts and one more transmission belt. Tires go flat frequently, and the cotter pins on the front wheels often break. Both front tires have actually fallen off of the machine while mowing. I will not let anyone other than myself even ride the thing. It is an accident waiting to happen. Problem is nobody will stand behind the machine as it is an MTD tractor with Cub Cadet stickers.

Overall I will never buy another Cub Cadet, even if it is from an actual dealer!

Strengths Great features for the money. Well put together, very strong motor.

Weaknesses The discharge shute could be a tad bit bigger to prevent clogs when bagging.

Overall I would buy it again. This is my first 1046. I've had 2 1042 and loved them both. I sold one with the house, and the other to a family member so I could buy the 46" if anyone was wondering. I DON'T BELIEVE THE MAJORITY OF THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS. LOOK AT THE STATS, SAME MOTOR'S, BETTER WARRANTY, MORE FEATURES.. I WAS TOLD ONCE BUY AN EX (HUSKY & JD) SALESMAN THAT IT WAS COMMON PRACTICE THAT THEY WOULD GO TO THESE SITES AND BASH OTHER MAKES. DON'T BELIEVE WHAT YOU READ!! MY .02.

Strengths Best Tractor I hav ever had. No problems at all. I would buy another cub before any other. Easy to use. Love the auto tansmission. Also came with 46" cut that was extra on other tractors.

Weaknesses None that I can find . Bought mine 12/ 2006.

Overall Awesome tractor. I wolud never buy another sears tractor!! It cub cadet for me!!

Weaknesses Hardest to start I have ever experienced. If cold, I always have to warm it with a heater, then boost start it with another battery. Even then it seems to take far too long to fire and start. Even with chains and wheel weights it has no traction in snow, rear wheels just spin. A total piece of junk and the dealer I bought it from couldn't care less about keeping his customers happy

Overall Don't buy it. I can't even give it away.

Strengths powerful mower, comfort to ride

Weaknesses loud, smokes when started, when picking up leaves it spits leaf debri out from under deck have to go over lawn 2-3 timnes to pick up debri.

Strengths Excellent Engine-the 23 HP Kohler Command v-twin engine-I have had this mower for five seasons with no problems. I have had no belt problems.

Weaknesses Could be a little more even cut.

Overall Good mower. I think it is easy to take off the deck and change the belt if needed (haven't need to). It has been a good made in America mower.
