Strengths I agree with all the previous comments about the strength of these tractors. The engineering is strictly top drawer.
Weaknesses A bug seems to exist in connection with the temperature gauge built into the instrument panel. My new 4720 (delivery 7-2012) has a temp gauge that consistently reads very close to the red line for excessive heat. Dealer has checked the engine, and it is running at proper temperature, so it's a fault in the gauge. However, other compact tractors coming into the dealership seem to have this same bug. For some reason, JD's quality control dept has missed this problem and has failed to recognize it & provide support.
Mine also came with AC that barely cooled the cabin. A fix that required more freon. Another quality control issue? How do these basic issues get out of the factory with a pass?
Overall Small but "mighty" best describes the 4720. You pay a lot, but you get a lot.

Strengths I've had wo of these tractos, one with a cab and one without. Of course having the cab makes it much more pleasant to use, and is much quieter. I had a loader on both. The hydrostat drive is great and therese tractors are easy for a novice to use. They turn on a fiarily small area. I had both of them with turf tires, which is definitely the way to go for using in pasture or lawn areas. It still gets okay tracton in loose soil. If the ground is wet the tires can slip but not a problem when it is dry. The tractor feels well balanced and stable, and both of mine (2005 and 2007) have been very reliable.
Weaknesses The lift capacity is just so-so. If you will be lifting anything really heavy you'll need a bigger tractor, both for the loader and for the 3 point hitch. I also bent the three point hitch stabilizer bars using a 7 foot rotary mower. As a category one hitch tractor it's not designed for heavier farm implements.
Overall This series of tractor with the hydrostat drive is great for small farm or estate work, or general landscaping. I'd recommend anyone that will be using a tractor like this in lawn or pasture areas should get the turf tires - you'll greatly minimize damage to your turf areas. A quick hitch is also nice and I have found a rig with a trailer hitch nice for moving trailers around or towing a water wagon.

Strengths This tractor can do it all. For it's size, it is very potent. Can do alot of work. I have a grappler bucket on mine, and after Hurricane Gus (I live in Louisiana), I did 2 months of work in 2 weekends. Also 6 foot cutter does a great jog. Starts right up and never misses a beat. This is a fantastic tractor, Best thing I ever bought.
Weaknesses Nothing but praise for this tractor.
Overall Overall an excellent, dependable tractor, capable of quite a wide variety of work.

Implements : 400CX loader

Strengths Almost too powerful. An awesome tractor that makes tough jobs easier. The summer AC is a BLESSING and the cabin air filter eliminates almost all dust. But the cabin filter must be cleaned often. I did get my own aftermarket stereo, but had Deere put it in for free. I got 60 month 0% financing which is like several K$ in my pocket and the post sale service has been superb (free 200 hour).
Weaknesses A bit tippy and a couple of dealer fixed problems (front bearing seals), hydraulic line popped, but the machine came back cleaner than when it went in. The local dealer (P&K, Edmond, OK) has been superb.
Overall I looked at many tractor "colors", but the value of "green" (performance, cost, features, finacing, dealer service) could not be beat. I am a former New Holland person and they need to step up.
Bottom line - test out the 4720. Called a compact, but nothing like that in terms of performance.

Strengths This is the 1 4720 i have owned but certinley not the first john deere i have a 4710 and a 4600 with a backhoe and if it was up to me i would have bought the 4720 from the beging the cab and all features of this tractor just blow my mind everytime i start it up from the glowplugs to the air ride seat what will they come up with yet it just keeps pulling a way from all my other tractors
Weaknesses Nothing the best tractor yet

Strengths I traded my 4410 on this machine and only regret that I didn't do it sooner! I really like the lift capacity on the loader. For such a small tractor, it has alot of power. The eydro is a definite plus too.
Weaknesses Owning this tractor 6months, I have yet to discover a weakness. A step on the right side of the tractor would be nice tho.
Overall overall,I have and wouls recommend this tractor to the small acreage owners or landscapers. Perfect size with lots of power

Strengths LOADMATCH! John Deere hit the ball completely out of the park when they added this feature to this series. It is proof positive that Deere's engineers truley understand the term "CUT." You can still putts around the yard with traditional utility maneuverability or you can go elsewhere and dig into some real work. No need to be left wanting for two machines ... one for heavy, clumsy work and the other for tip-toeing around the tulip bed. This large frame Loadmatch tractor has both bases covered. It's two tractors in one!
Weaknesses It would be nice to have a larger tire range to take advantage of some of that excess torque on the higher HP models, say 20" R1 fronts and 30" R1 rears.
Overall Definitely a keeper. I'll add fluid eventually to the tires, but other than that you can't call it "compact" if it gets much bigger.

Strengths Smooth, great power, lots of room (Im 6:3)very quite ( I have cab model) at full power you can talk on cell phone or listen to the radio or cd's without any problem. Air conditioning and heater are great, no dust or anything els gets in cab. I added 400lbs to back wheels so I dont have to worry about loader tip.
Weaknesses Cost - but I would buy it again. At this time I just can not think of any down sides, I have only had this one for a month, but so far I can not keep my hands off of it..
Overall This is my 4th John Deere, I had smaller models, should have just spent the money and got the big one first, would have been a lot less costly. The cost above is for a 4730 deluxe air ride cab, R4 tires, a top and tilt with electric diverter, 400lbs wheel wts, tool box, front fenders, rear work lights, self leveling loader with heavy duty bucket.
