Strengths This used 2005 model JD 5105 has meexceeded all my expectations. I have driven tractors for 35 years. This is my first John Deere. I took a 3 week working vacation & enjoyed every minute on my machine
Weaknesses Ag tires cut up sod. Front tires could be wider for more floatation when bucket is loaded heavy
Overall 2005 model was the last one made in USA.

Strengths Just a great all around utility tractor for the farm.
Weaknesses
Overall I have the 4wd with ag tires and also put fluid in the mains. Great rock steady farm utility machine.

Strengths Great power, very good fuel consumption, takes a beating, notheirng ever wrong with it
Weaknesses Lacks a toolbox (built one across the ROPS). Don't let it run out of fuel, or even drain water from the filter - there's no fuel pump and the hand pump at the filter doesn't work. I had to install a small electric pump for a backup. The 521 loader is great but way too heavy on the front tires. The front breaks through the mud and you're finished. Needs wider tires, weight on rear. Rubber lines on tractor bottom need to be shielded.
Overall Terrific machine, high quality and durable. Well placed controls.

Strengths Maneuverability. Easy forward/reverse operation. Large enough to handle 8' disk and enough PTO horsepower to easily handle 6' rotary cutter.
Weaknesses Recommend 16.9-28 tires over the 14.9-28 tires for ground engaging equipment and operation in soft soils. Tractor is easily capable of breaking traction with the 14.9-28 tires.
Overall I am very pleased with this unit. I purchased this tractor with 106 hours and it is in new condition. I have put 50-60 hours on it both cutting fields with a John Deere MX6 rotary cutter and pulling a 3PT 8' disk and a 3PT 6' disk. No complaints.

Strengths Lots of power, Good on diesel, I get about 15+ hours on a tank. Sits up high so you can see really good. Platform is clear nothing gets in the way. Easy to service all filters and fittings. The 521 loader is a must have. John Deere customer service #1
Weaknesses I had the instrument cluster go out as well as the fuel sending unit. John Deere stood behind their product and replaced the parts.
Overall I have operated equipment since 1972 and can honestly say that this is the tractor Ive always wanted and needed. John Deere is the best.

Strengths Ag use. Great tractor. Sits high, good visibility. Selected the wide front tires. Better control. Good field ride. Pretty roomy platform. CAT 2, 3 point hitch.
Weaknesses Replaced rubber fuel lines twice already even though it is stored inside. No easy shutoff. Gear shifter does get in the way when checking implements behind you. No tool box. Put my own on. Hood could open further.
Overall Great tractor. Glad to own it. Purchased in 2002. Fairly easy to work on.

Strengths lots of power, good visibility
Weaknesses 4WD engagement lever is on the floor! have to bend over to work it. WAY too loud! Power steering requires more effort than most-seems like it is sluggish-cannot make fast turns. Fuel filler caps are too high off the ground (have to get a step stool to see in there). Top link fastens to its brack upside down. Uses too much fuel. No tool box. Headlights are useless with loader. No rear work light.
Overall I bought the wrong tractor! This is a farm tractor for field work or construction work. You cannot use it around the yard because it is so heavy and the tires tear up the sod when you turn. I will get a Kubota now!
