Years of Use : Test Drive
Implements : 300 loader and 60inch landpride box scraper
Purchased From : t&t power concord NH
Strengths power galore. I've run quite a few tractors in my day, and this one is my favorite. Most jobs can be done in the 1200-1500rpms range. Manual tranny is great, no flaws. Locking diff for rears is outstanding, and the FWD is a must for offroad or field applications. Pulls a 60 scraper with teech all the way down in gravel (hardpack) with no problem.
Weaknesses No rear lights standard. No float for the 3point or bucket
Overall after owning this tractor and abusing it for 10 hours, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat! Great tractor for the money. Green is my favorite color!

Implements : 6' finish mower,3pt disc, 300 loader, 5' brush hog
Purchased From : White and Sons, now Donald
Strengths Excellent pulling power and strong for mowing or brush hogging. A 6' finish mower is nothing for this tractor even in thick grass. The 4x4 is great, steering is very smooth. Comfortable. The 300 loader is the easiest I have ever seen to take off and put on ... but
Weaknesses The loader is a bit weak. Rated at 700 lbs or so. A full bucket of gravel or soil is all it wants to lift. Alternator is a bit small too. I had to replace a battery already, but it was pro-rated with the warranty. Blew the CMOD fuse when the battery went, took an hour or so to figure it out.
Overall It was hard to list the weaknesses. They were all minor. This is a great little tractor. I have used many others this size, JD 750, JD 955, a couple Kubota's, a Massy among others. I like this one the best. A very tight tractor. The 955 w/hydrostatic transmission handled the steep grades a bit better, but this one rides better. Way better than the orange K.

Strengths good tractor plenty of power for 5 foot bushog. does good with harrow. for a 2wd it does very good.
Weaknesses wheelbase is a little narrow. with 100 pounds of weights on frontend it will lift off the ground with 5 foot bushog lifted on the back of tractor.be careful.

Implements : Front Loader, Baltic Spreader, Post Hole Digger, Pan Scraper , Finisher Mower
Purchased From : private owner
Strengths Performs well with all implements. Maintains power under heavy loads. Control features within easy reach. Very good fuel economy. Good turning radius.
Weaknesses Clutch is a little tricky shifting from nuetral. Clutch position tricky for engaging Live PTO.
Overall I think the JD 790 is versitile. It has good performance. A good tool for maintaining landscaping.

Implements : 300 loader, 62" heavy duty bucket, Frontier 72" FEL Blade, 6' Land Pride Box Blade
Purchased From : Turf and Trail
Strengths Looks great, strong engine, great loader, Blade on Loader great for snow removal, sips fuel, lots of power for it's size, looks like a tractor should look, FEL hydraulic valve very easy to use.
Weaknesses Platform a bit tight, have to remove side panel to get to oil stick, not great for a lot of loader work, no tool box for JD that fits.
Overall Relatively inexpensive and if you don't need the hydro for FEL work it is all the tractor you need. Love the tractor.

Implements : 70A LOADER, 6' BLADE,6' LANDSCAPE RAKE, 5' BOX BLADE, 5' BUSH HOG
Purchased From : LBJ EQUIPMENT
Strengths QUICK STARTING, GOOD FUEL ECONOMY, EXCELLENT POWER, ALMOST EFFORTLESS POWER STEERING EVEN WITH LOADER BUCKET FULL, SMOOTH AND STRONG BRAKES, GOOD VISIBILITY, EASY TO SERVICE, LOADER HAS BEEN GREAT AND WITH THE 4WD IT DOES MORE THAN I WOULD EVER EXPECT FROM A 30HP COMPACT
Weaknesses NO TOOLBOX, BATTERY CORROSION PROBLEMS, NO ROOM FOR CHAINS ON FRONT OR REAR TIRES(I HAVE AG TIRES), FOR LOADER WORK IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A REVERSE SPEED INBETWEEN THE H & L.
Overall I LOVE THIS TRACTOR. BOUGHT IT USED WITH 300 HOURS. I UPGRADED FROM A JD 750 WHICH I THOUGHT WAS GREAT UNTIL I GOT THE 790. I USE IT FOR GRADING, RAKING, MOWING, PULLING SMALL IRRIGATION DITCHES, MOVING ROCKS(WE GROW EXCELLENT ROCKS HERE IN SW COLORADO),AND ANYTHING ELSE I CAN FIND AS AN EXCUSE TO FIRE UP MY USEFUL AND NECESSARY "TOY".

Purchased From : James River Equipment
Strengths Runs great. Plenty of power to grade driveway with 5' scrape blade. Front loader has been biggest asset on the farm.
Weaknesses Only one and it is a lack of a tool box. I may construct one for the right fender.
Overall Perfect machine for our small hilly acerage.

Implements : R4 tires, 300 loader, brush hog, blade, tank/sprayer
Purchased From : Fisher Implement, Oregon
Strengths Starts perfect every time, purrs and has lots of power. I dug and leveled a shop site and was supprised by the digging power. Will handle a heaped bucket of dirt without a wimper. The compact size make it easy to get in and out of tight places on our 25 acre tree farm. Stability seems good to me on the hills.
The Dealer was really good to work with.
Weaknesses I find my self wanting a reverse speed between the available high and low. At times low reverse seems too slow, perhaps "I" just need to slow down and enjoy the ride.
Overall Everything I wanted in a tractor! I had a difficult time deciding between the 990 and 790, now that I have the 790 I am happy with my choice.
WOuld buy it again.

Implements : 70 loader, 5 ft finish mower, 5 ft bush hog, 7ft back blade, and boom pole.
Purchased From : Godfrey Brothers, Jonesville, Mi
Strengths With turf tires it will plow snow without chains or weights. It will lift a full bucket of dirt easily. It starts easily, even in below zero temp.
Weaknesses The only problem ive had was with the original battery posts corroding and then the battery going dead. I replaced it with a used automotive battery and has been fine ever since. With the front loader on, the wheel on the high side will sometimes spin a little on a side hill, so i usually remove loader before mowing. It would have been nice to have the have the quick detachable bucket (later option) so that pallet forks could be used also.
Overall Owned 790 almost 7 years.Ive used it for mowing, plowing snow, and moving and leveling dirt while building a pole barn into a hill. Ive done driveways, garages, and a few other pole barns. It has done it all with turf tires. I have a bad back and use it for moving just about everything. It is as good or better than any of its competion.
