Strengths Powerful 25hp engine w/ 54 in. cut. Very reliable. Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'! Has good power to pull my big ole' butt up hills, and that's saying something! The 54 inch cut eats up my large lawn in half the time of my old Craftsman mower. It has been the best mower I have ever owned so far.
Weaknesses The only complaint I have had is the front tires would lose air once in awhile. But this could happen to any mower, so no big deal.
Overall I bought my G100 brand new off the showroom floor in 2004 and I have not had one problem with this tractor since then. It is powerful and mows evenly. I only have about 390 hours on it so far, and after reading all the complaints on here about tranny problems I am now a little nervous. But what the heck, I've gotten 8 good years of service from this mower and it's still going strong.

Overall Great unit! Most people only take time out to fill out a review or survey when they have a unit with problems. I bought my G100 new in 2003 and now have 897 hours on it! I've beat it all to hell and it likes it! Tough tough unit!

Strengths GOOD POWER RUNS AND MOWS GREAT. MY REVIEW SEEMS DIFFRENT THAN MOST OTHERS. HEAD GASKET WENT OUT @ 256 HOURS AND FIXED IT MYSELF BUT NOW HAS 657 HOURS ON IT AND IS GOING STRONG. MAYBE I'M JINXING MYSELF BUT HAVE NOT HAD 1 PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION. HOPEFULLY I BOUGHT IN LATE TIME OF MODEL YEAR AND TRANS PROBLEMS WERE CORRECTED.
Weaknesses MOWING QUALITY, LEAVES A SMALL STRIP BETWEEN BLADES BUT THEN AGAIN I MAY BE GOING TOO LONG BETWEEN CUTTINGS.
Overall IF YOU ASKED BEFORE I READ ALL THE BAD REVIEWS I WOULD HAVE SAID I'D DEFINITELY BUY ANOTHER BUT NOW I DON'T KNOW.

Strengths Engine is strong.
Mine had a 54 in deck which cuts a nice wide swath.
Weaknesses Transmission; dead at 301 hours with no prior sign of problem and regular maintenance performed.
Parts somewhat hard to find as the mower was 1 year in production under the JD brand. Previously a Sabre mower, I believe.
Overall Was pleased with the mower initially. I used for 2 seasons, mowing 1/3 of an acre. Prior owner used for 3 seasons, I believe. It came with the house I bought as we negotiated it to be thrown in. I had thought about selling it as it was too much mower for my yard and had read about tranny problems online. Should have pulled the trigger. Tranny died today at 301 hrs.

Weaknesses GUESS WHAT 335 HOURS AND NO TRANNY A 3YR MOWER AT BEST WHAT JUNK THEY PUT OUT.

Strengths When running - runs great
Weaknesses TRANSMISSION!!!!!! getting close to 400 hours and would only go a few feet or years and then stop moving and make grinding noisy. The cost to have it fixed is more then what I purchased it for.. What a joke

Strengths Good strong engine- Horrible transmission and even worse customer service!!
Weaknesses Transmission is shot with under 500 hours of use. The local JD service center even admitted that the transmissions were bad in the G100.
Overall Not much use for a tractor that can't get out of it's own way. So much for Nothin' Runs Like A Deere!!

Weaknesses G100 after 164 hours it started smoking and at 190 hrs the tranny is going out it will not pull up a small hill. I got a limon, but I don't think I'm the only one.

Strengths Still Looking for one
Weaknesses Transmission went out just over 100 hrs. No help from Dealer/ I now have 150 hrs and using about a squart of oil every 4 hrs. somkes a lot. I guess I have a cracked ring.
Overall Poor quality. this was my second JD. First was a 185 with the 18.5 Kawasaki. It ran flawlessly for over 20 years.

John Deere G100; it ran for 50 hours before the motor had to be replaced. Replaced under warranty. Thank Goodness. A defective part was installed by John Deere.
Weaknesses Transmission went out at 450 hours. Price for new transmission - around $1800. Value of tractor $0.
This appears to average or above for the G100.
Overall This tractor does a good job when it was operating. Too bad John Deere did not produce a marketable tractor. I'm afraid to buy another John Deere. BKC, Attorney
