Strengths Good little tractor for the money. this is our 7th year cutting with it and I'm very impressed that it lasted so long. we run it very hard for 8.5 months a year, every 6th day for 4.5 hours straight. thats a tall order for any tractor.

Weaknesses Nothing out of the ordinary, change the oil frequently(hd30w),replaced belt once(deck), pulleys(upper),battery(once),air filter cleaned after every cut, blades and air filter replaced after 3rd cut of each new season. very inexpensive to take care of and do it yourself. owners manuel is a plus(very easy) for those who want to stay away from high priced repairman.(who use the same manuel).

Overall Very high marks for the L100 lawn tractor, got more than we expected,(that hardly never happens) we worked it very hard from farm grass to residential lawns ,slopes,flats and ditches,it just keeps going.we will retire it this season,will keep it for light duty only. we will be replacing it with the X320 garden tractor. Good job JD.

Overall 5th year of trouble free service with moderate use, I'm on my third battery, but other than that I've just changed the oil, and sharpened the deck blades. I use it to mow about 3/4 acre, and haul firewood. I am very pleased with it, and surprised to hear all the bad reviews.

Overall This mower is an entry level mower that JD makes to compete with lower end riding mowers. It should only be used to mow grass on flat land with no other tractor related tasks performed. If a basic lawn mower is needed this is a good one. If a tractor is needed go to the JD dealership and purchase one.

Strengths 3 seasons of mowing my yard (3/4 acre) and a neighbors every now and again (1/2 acre) and have not had a single problem. I do not take care of it very well other than oil changes and I keep it in the garage. It still cranks right up and mows great every time. ASSEMBLED IN THE USA!!! In Greeneville, TN they always have been...

Weaknesses I bought the high back seat ($70) and replaced the low back seat for more back support. I think that they all should come with the high back seat.

Overall Do any of you do any scheduled maintanence? I'm sure you don't. Which is exactly why you trade you car in when the warranty expires. One person let his kid use it like its some kind of commercial mower. Don't buy the cheapest mower JD makes, drive it into the ground, and then start complaining.

Weaknesses I have had similar experiences as others. The mower deck has been an issue starting with the 2nd seasons use. Electric problems were next. And now finally the engine blew, just after the warrenty ended. Had the product for 4 seasons. Would have been happier paying half for a product that was expected to only last 4 seasons.

Overall Not what is expected from JD.

Strengths None that I can see.

Weaknesses Owned my L100 for 3 years, seat is torn, the mower deck has a cracked support weld, the idler pulley bracket has bent, chews up belts. When the rings went I got a brand new short block and practically rebuilt the engine. So far the tranny has been ok, but I'm sure that will go next.

Overall When I contacted Briggs & Stratton about my model engine they told me it had been replaced with a newer model because they were having too many problems.

Strengths w hate to disagree but for the money this mower is excellent..ive got the engine cranked up and change the oil alot but ive never seen anything it couldnt do.its strngth is in its simplicity and it just keeps on going-as for an oil pump-the splash system is well proven and is known to be a very effective and reliable method.

Weaknesses as with any size lawn mower it could use more power---i broke some welds too----i hit a culvert once and hit other stuff so hard it shut the mower down instantaneously[motor and all]---on my 5th year with it --the deck hanging brackets need looked at and welded up---and new blades--2nd time.

Overall if you want a 3 -10 thousand dollar lawn mower than go get one----but theres no need to lie about this one unless you work for the companies that make only 3-10 thousand dollar ones,

Strengths is very good if i can keep it running and not have the trouble that i am having

Weaknesses motor has been replaced 2 times assembled in mexico sorry workmanship and i have replace deck 2 times the weld is not holding so i would not buy a fake John Deere again

Strengths It's green. Easy on fuel and with the 42 in deck is was a good split between a large cut and being able to get in close and between objects

Weaknesses Mower deck needs constant attention. Engine lost the crank shaft and split the engine case.

Overall I owned it for four years. I have to say that for the price it behaved well. We mow about an acre and it is used to mow a yard up the road for cash by my son. I would say that it could have been better but... it was about the cheapest Deere mower out there and you get what you pay for
