Strengths No mechanical problems what so ever. I owned an MTD in the past and it was continuous problems. I have an L120 and all I have had to do was change the oil, just changed the belt after 5 years of use. This tractor cuts great and still looks like the day I brought it home. Great Tractor, well built.
Weaknesses Rear bagger gets clogged easily.
Overall Very satisfied, always starts when I need to use it. I have 1 1/4 acres that I cut 1-2 times per week and bag the entire lawn.

Strengths Only had the machine for a little more than two years so any strenghs are not yet known. Very disappointed in JD.
Weaknesses Sadly the "mighty" cast iron axel is all done and has broken clean through after just 140 hours of use. It is astonishing to see this junk of steel and rather benign part just shear clean through. Upon inspection it is clear that this part failure starts as a crack and fatigues until the mower nose dives into your turf.
It is clear JD has sold out their quality image to Home Depot. I have read many reviews and one commentor suggests sticking to super cheap since you ususally get two years from a MTS/Murray for 1,000 to 1,200 less. This good advice and my experience as well. Alternately the purchase of a 5,000 to 7,000 dollar machine might be bring satisfaction in tractor ownership. Keep in mind for that price you need 8+ years of statisfaction to beat out the super cheap option.
If you go for high end stay away from JD and let them enjoy their corporate relationship with Home Depot and Lowes. Kubota or a high end Cub Cadet (MTD).
Overall Again stay away from JD

Implements : 48" deck
Purchased From : home depot
Strengths strong engine, wide deck, good on fuel
Weaknesses it needs posi-trac. seems kinda hard to start after its been sitting for a week or 2, also smokes a little on startup. the back up feature sucks, but i understand why they put it on the machine....for stupid people.
Overall so far this has been a good machine for us. i have used it to pull a trailor loaded with dirt, rocks, landscaping stuff, it has pulled my old datsun truck when needed. only thing i have had to do was change the oil in it so far. i got almost 3 seasons out of the original blades, it desperately needs new blades now, but that will wait till next spring.

Strengths COLOR - IF YOU'RE A PACKER FAN IT WILL MATCH NICELY WITH YOUR PACKER DECOR - THIS MOWER IS COMPLETE GARBAGE - KEEP YOUR MONEY
Weaknesses THIS MOWER IS A COMPLETE JOKE. THE PTO CLUTCH HAS GONE OUT 4 TIMES NOW AMONG MANY OTHER THINGS - IN LESS THAN 10 HOURS YOU CAN EXPECT IT TO GO - MAKE SURE YOU RUN IT CONSECUTIVELY FOR THOSE HOURS SINCE THEY ONLY WARRANT THE PART FOR 90 DAYS - THAT WAY THEY DON'T HAVE TO STAND BEHIND THIS JUNK - JD IS OFF THE PEDESTAL - THEY DON'T CARE THAT THEY ARE COMPLETELY RIPPING PEOPLE OFF ON THIS WORTHLESS MODEL - THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE HAS MADE ME LOSE FAITH IN JD - OUR OTHER TWO JD TRACTORS ARE LESS LOVED NOW
Overall RUN THE OTHER WAY - DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER PUTTING YOURSELF THROUGH THIS NIGHTMARE - THIS REVIEW NEEDS A LOW OF ZERO SINCE THIS MOWER DOES NOT DESERVE A ONE

Implements : Have snow blade with weights and chains, small trailer
Purchased From : John Deere Dealership
Strengths Ease of operation ... the 46 inch cuts gets things done fast. Snow blade worked suprising well ... I figured I'd do a lot of slipping but it wasn't bad at all last two winters.
Weaknesses I bought one of the first L120's models so mine has the 20 HP engine ... wish it was the 22 HP one.
Overall NO complaints at all. Changed the oil at the beginning of each season and I mow about 3 acres with it. Other than new cutting blades I've never needed a thing for it. Still looks like new!

Strengths Nice Color
Weaknesses Eats mower belts, first belt only 6 months, not a warranty item. Ready for a new belt at 2 years.
Mower deck spindle blew out at 2 years.
Steering arms broken at 2 years at the dealer 30 days (still there).
Under powered.
Parts are over priced.
Overall I cut two acres in Florida (flat). This mower is overpriced for what JD delivers. Continual maintenance nightmare. I had much better luck with my old used Murray and used MTD which were "low end machines." The JD service is a joke I have been waiting a month to get the steering fixed, still there ( yes the grass is growing over the roof). Had to get another mower, Cub Cadet...seems to be a much better machine. Now I have a J.D. to sell..........

Strengths When it works it's fine. The problem is, it doesn't work enough.
Weaknesses The reliability is horrible. I've driven this thing 55 hours and it has already been in the shop 3 times. The last go round was the replacement of the clutch ($375). Service by the local dealer is even worse. I have no truck and have to depend on the these guys to pick it up. I have had to wait up to a week for them to get around to it. Then they have kept it up to two weeks for the various problems, stating that their backlog is high.
Overall A nightmare. My only concern now is dumping the thing.

Strengths EXTREMELY RELIABLE. HAVE OVER 290 HOURS. NO PROBLEMS YET. EXCELLENT CUT. ORIGINAL BATTERY STILL.
Weaknesses BLADE WEAR. BACK UP BUTTON. FUEL TANK SIZE. BAGGER SHOOT CLOGS UP. VERY EASY FOR GRASS AND DEBRIS TO GET ON TOP OF DECK AND AROUND SPINDLES. THIS CAN CAUSE BELT TO COME OFF. KEEP CLEAN!!
Overall HAVE HAD FOR 3 YEARS NOW. JUST HAVE TO KEEP UP ON YOUR MAINTENANCE. DON'T "PUT AWAY WET". JD NEEDS TO IMPROVE BLADES. WELL WORTH THE MONEY.

Strengths Hhhmmmm..., well, I guess the sliding seat has been reliable.
Weaknesses clutch, blew at 1 year, took it into local JD shop, free warranty repair.
Charging, not functioning... mow until dead then hook up to the battery charger. Got free replacement warranty on those components when the clutch was done.
NOW... broke the almighty cast iron front axle. Appears to have been slowly tearing for some time and then suddenly finished breaking through in one sudden frontal splits position in the middle of mowing.
Overall Destroyed my long-entrenched farmboy favor of JD. Torqueless mower with horsepower is only half a mower. Better options
1. Go super cheapo mower and you will still be better than this JD.
2. Pay for orange paint and your new Kubota will likely outlast you.
