Strengths Easy to start, comfortable ride, easy deck removal. I liked the fact that I could see the fuel level. Grease joints easy to get to.
Weaknesses Needed to buy tire chains as it could not make it up some of the inclines on my property. Am on my third year of ownership and now the transmission is gone. After only 15 minutes of mowing it can not go up any type of incline. I could not even get it to go over a 1/2 rise into my garage. Replaced drive belt but that did not do the trick. over the 3 years of ownership it never had the power to go up inclines.
Overall DO NOT buy this lawn tractor.

Strengths Easy to steer; not bad ride if you don't go full out. Comfortable seat. 12V port on front (which I have not used for anything). Deck looks easy to remove though I haven't needed to do this. See thru gas tank opening under the seat that you can view while driving.
Weaknesses Bought July 2005 and put 4.5 hrs on it before that fall. Worked OK, but for a couple of grand I would like (1) a quieter exhaust (2) greasable blade bearings (3) more accessible gas fill since you always spill some gas on the painted area under the seat no matter how careful you are.
The very worse: this year I had to remove the entire front of the engine cover enough to clean the carb. Would not start with just 4.5 hrs on it. The plugs were both fouled terribly and needed to be replaced. I put StaBil fuel conditioner in last fall but it did not prevent the startup problem. Now, with just 6.3 hrs on it, the transmission will not take the tractor up even the slightest incline and I will be calling the dealer to pick the machine up for service. Very disappointed in this Deere and my L130 (which I bought used 3 yrs ago but is somewhat more reliable).
Overall Not dependable, loud. Loud as a Sears or an MTD, but at least they last a couple of years before transmission issues.

Strengths Very well made tractor
Weaknesses Sold in mass retailer who Knows nothing about unit. They expect customer to go to a dealer for assistance. Why?
Why not buy from a dealer and not from someone who is not going to support you after the sale . I just don't get it?????
John Deere Should be assamed they are selling out their dealers this way.
Overall I like the product but I don't see why Deere is supporting this form of retail . What made a Deere a
Deere was the dealer support and prdouct knowledge.
It's not a piece of wood.

Strengths COMFORTABLE RIDE.
Weaknesses TRANSMISSION BLEW UP WITH 25 HOURS ON MOWER.
DECK HAS FALLEN OFF WHILE MOWING 3 TIMES IN 50 HOURS OF USE. VERY LOUD. SERVICED AT DEALERSHIP.HAD IT 2 WEEKS IN MID SUMMER WITH THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM.
Overall VERY DISAPPOINTED.FRIENDS SAY "YOU'VE HAD THAT MANY PROBLEMS WITH A DEERE" FINDING OUT THOUGH THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THESE "ENTRY LEVEL" MOWERS.

Strengths Easy to get on and off. Deck removal is easy on and off using 6 hitch pins. Quick attach front blade is easy to install and remove. Headlights are bright for after dark use.
Weaknesses RIO button for reverse is a pain ( disabled ). Transmission is sufficent but could use a little more power in reverse. Oil filter changing is messy unless you adapt a container underneath. Oil change pipe needs to be a couple inches longer.
Overall I am satisfied with this tractor going on 3 years now. Would consider it reliable for 1-2 acres mowing and light tasks.

Weaknesses We also purchased the 48-inch rear bagger, which came already installed. Fueling the tractor in this configuration is ridiculous; it is impossible to get the pouring spout from the gas can near the fuel tank without spilling the fuel. More fuel is poured over the tractor and onto to the ground than goes into the tank. I had to purchase a flexible funnel so that I could fuel the tractor. This simple $2.80 solution should be part of the rear bagger package!
The lower hook-up between the rear bagger and the mowing deck is another disgrace. After numerous attempts I concluded that I was doing it incorrectly. I eventually went to the local Home Depot and asked for a demonstration. The sales
Overall John deere stiffed us $300 for returning this equipment

Strengths It is a disgrace.
Weaknesses What a disappointment, the first time we used the new lawn tractor it tore up the lawn. I stopped mowing and checked the deck calibration. It was delivered with a 1½-inch difference in height from the left to right side, and the fore and aft angle reversed. The rear tires were pressurized to 22 psi and the front tires to 18 psi, neither of which conformed to the tractor operating manual or tire manufactures specifications. We also purchased the 48-inch rear bagger, which came already installed. Fueling the tractor in this configuration is ridiculous; it is impossible to get the pouring spout from the gas can near the fuel tank without spilling the fuel. Strengths Auto Trans and forward/reverse pedal set up make it easy and comfortable to mow.
Easy to maintain (oil, filter, grease zerks accessible).
Open area between seat and steering wheel make it easy to jump in and out of the seat from either side.
Weaknesses Some of the safety features are irritating. Somewhat loud, a quieter exhaust would be welcomed.
Overall A great machine. I mow a couple of hilly rough acres and it does a great job!
