Strengths safety control

Weaknesses steering wheel difficult to manoveur.transaxle broke in the center!Mower deck wheel broke off too. Blades needs changing often.

Overall Bought at Home Depot. Will not buy JD anymore at least at home depot. Disappointed that JD did not hold up to his name

Strengths kan pop a wheelie,kan run 150 hours with no oil in motor(had oil leak didnt know)

Weaknesses steering wheel riped off replace with a 86 chevy suburban steering wheel,fuel tank leaks replace with 5 gallon fuel cell from summitracing, brake horable put a shift kit in it to help slippage not a bought shift kit of course,slow even for a lawn mower so inject nitrous in it 35 shot,lights suck at night so i installed 6 off road lights on it, blades dull to quick so had buddy make titanium blades for it

Overall NOT WORTH 4,500 PAID FOR IT FROM HOME DE-POT buy from a real jd next time

Overall JUNK! I will not ever buy a John Deere riding mower again because they can no longer be trusted to sell a product that lasts.Fool me once!

Strengths Kohler motor,cup holder,easy to take deck off,and looks good

Weaknesses K46 transaxle,steering,uneven cut,blades always need sharping,rear tires( no traction)not very good paint,front axle wobbles,deck spindles(no grease fittings),driver weight limit 200 lbs.,only 15% incline, not a true john deere, and to much money for what you get

Overall Really got ripped off.I always wanted a deere saw one at home depot and bought it. That was the biggest mistake I made!I should have done research on this thing.bought it in 2005 no problems until now, deck spindle,trans.with only 135 hrs.on it! I only mow with it.Never buy a L or LA series cheap junk!Buy an old (REAL)deere they will last along time not a few years, or at least buy a cheap tractor use it for a few yrs. then buy a new one.Personly I think the tractor is only worth around $1000.00. very cheesey quality it was no better than the tractor it replaced a $900.00 yard man by MTD. Now that was a good tractor just wish it had the Kohler.

Strengths the motor ran for 424 hours then sold it always started and ran not a bad snowblower (42 in) burned 1 tank of gas each week in the mowing season

Weaknesses replaced transaxel at 215 hours smoke at start up backfire at shutdown slow even a john deere dealer said 3+ acres is too much for it each week

Overall not bad but not a real john deere unit will never buy another john deere product again...ever!! sorry but it did not live up to the deere reputation i had been led to expect

Weaknesses back-fires at shut-off hard steering electric clutch tore loose from bracket tore wiring harness up only 65 hours on machine burns oil at start up.. burns more oil than my ford-furgenson old tractor thats over 70 years old... never buy JD mower again.JD way overated..

Strengths Even though the engine backfires Kohler is a great engine. Transmission so far. Southern Tractor in Canton Mississippi, great service and employees.

Weaknesses The Kohler engine is a plus but it backfires on shutdown, dealer advised to let it idle down 30 seconds and apply full throttle and cut engine off. No more backfires but an awful lot of aggravation. Front end just broke in half this afternoon. The belt gets damaged quite easily, I have to replace at least once a year. Front bushings replaced twice, front spindles replaced twice. Does not steer easily, just noticed the steering gear needs replaced. I have replaced the deck spindles once, thank goodness they have a grease fitting. I also replaced several pulleys on the deck, and a tensioner spring. The steering wheel seems that it is going to break off any day.

Overall I wonder where the materials are supplied to make these lawnmowers, seems to be awful cheap to be american. As with everything that our family has, I repair it myself if not we would be broke. The actual sad thing is this is my 75 year old mothers lawnmower who has put about half the 270 hours on the mower, and she called me quite often to come and fix it. This mower only cuts approximately 2 acres. Last mower was a Yamaha, I wish they still made them. John Deere I say shame on you.

Strengths Kohler Motor has always started.

Weaknesses Like a broken record of all the other reviews. Motor smokes at startup, backfires at shut down. Steering is horrible, have replaced steering column gear and tie arm plate twice. Replaced mower deck spindle for bearing failure. Replaced both front axle bushings, completely worn out. Just yesterday the "Cast Iron" for durability front axle snapped in half. My wife calls it the Lemon. Yes, very disappointed, had a KMart mower before this one for 11 years and NEVER had the problems I have with this mower. No comparison to the REAL John Deere mowers you can buy at the dealers. I am borrowing my neighbors X500 Multi Terrain John Deere for now and there is no comparison in quailty between the two. Parts are not cheap and the mark ups at the John Deere dealer are ridiculous compared to what I can by online.

Overall Not a John Deere.........just labeled that way. Very disappointed, makes you think twice about why John Deere keeps selling this junk at Lowes or Home Depot. You dont even get what you pay for with this tractor.

Strengths Comfortable to operate. Decent cut. Great for snow removal (42" 2-stage).

Weaknesses Original spindles were sealed, had to be replaced after 4 years. Bagger is meh. Transmission is sealed, but mine's still running fine after 7 years/450 hours.

Overall I think I'd prefer a smaller cutting deck next time around, 48" is a bit unwieldy. Smoke at startup & backfires when shutting off? Never, if I run the engine at low for a minute or so when done using it (otherwise, both are likely). My first Deere, next tractor will probably be a "real" Deere.

Strengths Cut great when new - but you must replace the blades regularly. Replaced the PTO clutch(bearing shot)+ 2 x front axles broke(made my own)+ replaced 1 x spindle bearing on the deck - all in the first 150 hours. Engine backfire(at shutdown) can be fixed by running Moreys uper cyliner lube in the fuel

Weaknesses Poor quaility engineering and basically a rip off

Overall Needs an engineering upgrade in the front axle and transmission
