Strengths quite good cut when grass is very dry and works better in mulching.
easy to drive
Weaknesses lawn tractor made by JD for making money with spare parts very expensives with in europe important increase of price for the past years more than 80% in spite of euro increase against dollar and parts especially belt aree not better than adaptable one, I had to change 3 times mower drive belt (cranked) one time traction drive belt and 1 time blade timing belt.1
I had to re fix roker arms after 150 operating hours nut completly unthighthen and engine works only on one cylinder
This machine is not easy to work on, mower deck to difficult to remove for changing blade JD enginneer should think a little bit that a lawn mower is made to be used and not stored on a show room.
Overall I own a LT180 since 2004, it has 300 operating hours to many reapair operation to perform in so few operating hours, the attaching chute driving grass is too small and go to hight to be efficientto collect grass to grass collector. JD have seen that this kind of machine was not good, the new one are much simple but may be not more efficient.
JD engineer should see the concurence especially Kubota to built efficient lawn mower according to the price

Strengths Easy to use and maintain.
Weaknesses Sealed transmission failed after less than 70 hrs. Grease fitting on center of deck difficult to access. Reverse button, which I have removed.
Overall I would be happy with it if it weren't for the transmission. I didn't pay $3,500 for an LT180 to have fail after 65 hours. This comes to over $50/hour. Now I have to pay $900-$1000 to get it repaired.

Strengths Good mower for flat residential yards up to about 1 acre. 48" deck too much for engine if the grass is thick/high but if you're the "mow every week" kind of guy then it'll be OK. My 2 acres of incline makes it moan.
Weaknesses Reverse button is a pain, but can be bypassed. Just disconnect the switch and connect the two wires together. Deck underneath and spindles on top accumulate cuttings. Needs something on the top of the spindles to keep the grass from accumulating around it. I hose the deck out every time I use it.
Overall Good mower for cutting flat <1 acre urban yards. It's a mower, not a tractor. 42" deck better suited to engine than 48.

Strengths Very easy to maintain.
Five years now and never had to replace belts.
NIce even cut...mulching deck works well up to 6" lawn.
Weaknesses Reverse button for me, but is great feature for my 10 year old when he mows.
Overall Best lawn tractor I have ever owned.

Implements : 42 "deck, snow blade, tractor trunk, tire chains
Purchased From : Ehlers JD, Elburn, IL
Strengths Starts right away, every time. Cut 10+ inch high grass without a problem. I use the mulching attachment on the 42" mow deck. I use the mulcher on leaves in the fall, and I have a ton of trees! I have the snow plow blade too. Pushes snow all over the place! Runs quiet, smooth, and flawlessly.
Weaknesses If you want to plow snow, wheel weights dont work at all. I use a "tractor truck" and put two tubes of sand in the back. And then use chains.....you will have no problems. Switching from mow deck to snow blade takes some getting used too
Overall I love it....I miss the metal hood, the plastic scratches easily, but overall, I would buy it again in a heartbeat

Implements : 44" snow blade, 48" deck
Purchased From :
Strengths Relatively quiet engine. Easy steering and simple to service.
Weaknesses Engine started to bog down in thick grass at 550 hours. Mower belts snap at least once a season. Transmission is really not up to using a snow blade in practice - it was complaining at 550 hours. 48" deck is in practice too large for the size engine - the equivalent X300 series range does not offer that size deck on a 17hp engine for good reason.
Overall A good lawn tractor for mowing but not recommended for more strenuous tasks such as clearing snow.

Strengths Not many. This is the worst lawn mower I have ever owned.
Weaknesses Very poor design. Weak transmission, exposed drive belts wear fast. Clogs easily. Chassis is not removeable from frame. Lost gas line and it is an absolute nightmare to try to replace. Deck is very difficult to remove and replace. Reverse button is annoying. Seat switch is very touchy.
Overall If I hadn't paid so much for this piece of junk I would have said goodbye to it long ago. It is very poorly designed. It is just nothing compared with my old 1986 JD 316. I can't imagine anyone trying to do anything else with this thing than to maw a very small lawn.

Weaknesses I'm sitting here trying to think of some, and can't come up with any.
Overall This is a very well built machine. I have had it going on 5 years now and just now had to replace the belt due to a missing cotter-pin that I failed to replace during the last deck cleaning I gave it.
