Implements : 54" mower deck
Purchased From : Essex Equipment, Vermont
Strengths I just got a "leftover" BX24 with 54" mower deck. I paid $16,300. delivered. I was originally looking for used, but couldn't find one around Also, the 0% 60 month financing was a big plus.
So far only 6 hours, but I'm pretty impressed. Dug out a stump, moved boulders and mowed. Backhoe and loader are easy to remove/install. It mows much faster than my garden tractor, which also had a 54" deck.
Weaknesses When you step off of the reverse pedal, it STOPS abruptly like you jammed on the brakes. I called the dealer and they say this is normal. It makes mowing small places tough, and stuff in loader will shift if not careful. Also, it is very bouncy when mowing. I had the rear tires loaded and this may be part of the problem. I may drain some out and see if this helps.
Overall Overall is good. I don't expect it to do what a full compact will do, but for my 7 acres (4 acres grass) it will help me out a lot.

Strengths Price. Dealer I purchased it from has been very helpful over the years.
Weaknesses 600 hours on a small farm. Not built to last. Have had numerous problems including O-Ring leaking on front end, hydraulic lines failing because they are held in place by a metal bracket that eventually vibrates through the tubing. Has 2 fuel filters, 1 is easy to reach, the other is in the middle of the machine that requires removing the seat body shell. Engineering is very poor for the long term and service ability. Front end axle pressed in place, popped out under 400 hours. joystick controls are opposite natural hand movement. Incline tipping is a real concern. Parts are over priced and the manufacturer does not woory about keeping their customers happy.
Overall At 600 hours I am disgusted with the amount of issues and downtime. I'm going to sell it and move to the reliability of Bobcat or New Holland

Strengths Good strength to size. Good comfort. Fast. Good pacakge price.
Weaknesses 2 times same O'rings leaked under 50 hours. Pump seems weaker now after running low on fluid. Digger is for basic use do not try to set the world on fire with this one. Front drive seems weak after a good workout seems to skip and not grab in mud. Side to side tipping issues if you have any weight on an incline vs a bigger frame/weight machine. Did not observe machine was leaking. Needs better protection from sticks entering engine. I ran a stick into my fan shroud, broke that, broke 2 of the plastic fan blades and the radiator has a leak. That really sucks and will cost me..Kubota called about my issue, but never appoligized for my inconvience which really pissed me off. Person did not speak english well which also pissed me off. Financing via Kubota required flood insurance which is a rip off. $600 on $12K
Overall Good machine, with a minor issue that is a major inconvience. Purchased end of model year when switching to BX25, same thing with a bit of metal vs plastic and got a good price for TLB.

Strengths Strong tractor for the cost. 42 month 0% (not including the additional insurance for $472 more). Dealer was willing to pick it up and deliver back on every issue so far. Backhoe is strong for its size.
Weaknesses At 60 hours, the tractor developed a hydraulic leak on the hydrostatic steering because of a failed o-ring. Came home about 3 weeks later because of having to wait for the oring to be shipped to the dealer. Used it a few more times and developed another hydraulic leak on the transmission. Took it back and had to wait a month and a half because all the stainless steel hydraulic lines had to be replaced and they were getting the parts from all over the US. Got it home and used it for about another month and now having issues with the speed of the tractor slowing down after about an hour of use. Using a GPS, the tractor would run at rated speed (about 8-8.5 mph) but then after about an hour later or full usage, the tractor only runs about 6-6.2 mph even at full throttle. I know that 2 mph isn't much, but that equals to 25% of rated speed and if you're operating it over long distances (300 ft on way at a time), it's very noticeable. The dealer stated that they could not find anything wrong with the tractor and that they could not get the problem to repeat. Now that I've gotten it to repeat, the dealer stated they wanted me to speak with the regional service rep before they take it back to troubleshoot. That was over 3 weeks ago and I still have not had a call yet.
Overall Decent tractor for the money, esp. when compared with JD. Ask the dealer if they can let you use it for a few hours (even offer to pay them for those hours), and see if it will work for what you need it. I wish I had done that first. I will have to take a loss on this if Kubota doesn't follow through. I will not be buying another Kubota product if that's the case.

Strengths Obviously the Kubota diesel engine. These are good tractors. Compact with power. The fuel consumption is great.
Weaknesses Being from a dealership, I've seen the weakness. The floorboard/fenders will crack sometimes. This will be covered under warranty and the new one is a little beefier. The cluster panels are crap. If still under warranty, it can be covered. Although, I don't know if it has been improved. I haven't had any come back since the BX has been out though. Also, the light switches are very cheap. Expect them to go bad. Fortunately, they are all actually under ten dollars a piece. That is really about it as far as cons go for this machine. A bit of advice would be to watch your lights. If you crack a lens, it might seem that you can just buy a new one and snap or glue it into place, but often times Kubota only sells the whole assembly, mostly the headlight.
Overall Great machine. I would highly recommend.

Implements : loader/backhoe w/thumb
Purchased From : Stevenson Tractor
Strengths Great fuel ecnomy.
Easy to operate and maintain.
Good overall capabilities for a tractor this size.
I put a thumb kit on the backhoe and a full skid plate under it to keep the undercarriage from being damaged by stumps.
Weaknesses Hour meter/tach LCD died at 8 hours. Throttle lever is weak and cheap feeling compared to other controls. Lifting height on the bucket could stand to be about 4" higher to allow unaided clearing of a standard 30yd debris dumpster side wall.
Overall Good little machine. Great for a landscaper or homeowner that needs more than a mower and less than a full size tractor.

Implements : FEL, MMA, Tiller, Back Hoe, Landscape Rake
Purchased From : Lazenby
Strengths Very Strong for size, i just stepped up from a BX22, I work this thing like a dog and every time i look at it, it wants to work way harder than i do. I have put 800 lbs in the bucket and drove for 1/3 of a mile with it. Just for kicks i picked up the rear end of Little 2002 Toyota Pickup (not sure how much that weighs).
Very tight turning radius. Wont get stuck easily, back hoe digs deep, i could dig up a hole big enough to bury a fourwheeler in about 15 mins. I have a MMM and i had a ZD28 and comparitively it is only about 45mins slower when i cut my 15 acres. And it is more comfortable. I also have a Landscape rake to do my drive way and it works great.. I plow green fields with an old befco 4 foot tiller and it works awesome. I love this thing and my only regret was to buy an exmark, then a Zd28, Then a BX22 (Which my good friend owns now), to finally evolve into the BX24.
Weaknesses The RPM Hour gauge became opaque and i could only read it at night when i was back lit but the warranty covered it.
Fortunately for me i get awesome customer service at Capitol Tractor in Montgomery Alabama, and i didnt even buy the BX24 from them, but i did buy the ZD28, and Bx22 from them.
Overall Man this is one great tractor, i bought it in atlanta in August 2008 and i got a great deal, $16,000.00 with front end loader, Back Hoe, and MMM. 0% interest but i put $4000.00 down on it. I have insurance through Alfa and i dont have to get flood insurance and they never asked me to get it. SAVE SOME MONEY AND PUT THE MMM ON YOURSELF.

Price Paid : $18,600.00

Implements : Loader, backhoe, 60" mower deck, 60" snow/gravel blade
Purchased From : Kubota Corp
Strengths Bright color makes it easy to find in a snowstorm. 42 month 0% financing.
Weaknesses Several problems developed shortly after purchasing this tractor and the dealer and corporation underwhelmed me with their support and service.
The ROPS is 86" high, 2 inches shorter and it would fit into a standard garage door, it's quite annoying that I had to fold it down every time I parked in it the garage.
The grille guard must be removed to order to mount the front blade to the subframe this required 4 bolts to be removed and replaced each time I switched from blade to loader.
The color coding for the hydraulic hoses don't match between the blade and the tractor frame, the blade color coding is for an older model tractor (White/Yellow/Blue/Red versus Green/Orange/Blue/Red).
Locating the brake pedal on the same side of the tractor as the forward/reverse pedals makes starting on a hill very dangerous. Attempting to backup on a hill when the parking brake is set makes the operator use both feet on the same side, one foot to release the parking brake while the other foot presses the reverse lever so the tractor doesn’t drift forward.
The wheels on the mower deck should swivel 90 degree’s , instead of requiring the removal of a pin, then repining at 90 degrees in order to roll the mower deck out from under the tractor.
The backhoe should be allowed to swivel 90 degrees, currently it won’t swivel a complete 90 degrees in each direction.
Changing the oil filter required the removal of the hood and brackets. The side panels do not slide off and allow access to the filter without removing the hood.
There is no shutoff valves in the fuel line to stop fuel spillage when changing the fuel filters.
Overall The Kubota Corp did not stand behind their product in my opinion. I had the BX24 tractor loader backup for 5 months and regretted ever purchasing this tractor. The tractor developed an hydraulic leak with twenty hours on the tractor. My local dealer said it was a maintenance item and not covered under warranty. I went to the Kubota Corp web site and filled out the web page complaining that I felt this should be covered under warranty. A Kubota rep called me and said that items reviewed on the delivery inspection report are not covered under warranty. After working my way up through the Kubota Corp I'm finally was contacted by a high ranking official that stated both were mistaken and that hydraulic oil lead are covered and refunded my money for the service. A few weeks later the knobs started coming off in my hand, and most of the safety warning signs fell off. The seat latch fell off in my hand when turning the seat around too. The final straw was an issue with the tires. They continually leaked air. I took the tires to a local tire store which said they were defective and I should return to the tractor dealer and work with them. I took the tires to a different local Kubota authorized dealer, who simply put inner tubes into the tires as that was the approved fix by Kubota Corp. I again contacted Kubota Corp looking for a better fix for the tires and also mentioned all the other problems. They said the dealer did what they approved as far as fixing the tires, and that I should work with the dealer if I want something else done. I took a loss on it, but I traded this lemon in on at MF 2610 TLB. My recommendations is to stay away from the BX24!

Implements : TLB 12" BUCKET no deck
Purchased From : Middlefield Farm and Garden
Strengths Strong for size. Extreme value at $14500 for TLB 23 HP diesel. Close to the no-name import prices with poor parts/performance.
Went up a 2:1 dirt slope with ease. Hydro drive in high gear will rip your head right off with the power delivers. Unbelievebly easy to remove backhoe. 2 minutes... I like the plastic rear body. It saved me when I did not remove digger correctly and it came up on the body. Just pushed it in a little and and went back to original. What would metal have done? Plastic hood is fine. 2009 BX25 went to steel hood.
Weaknesses Money goes overseas. Kubota financing SUCKS for making me get flood insurance. It is not because I am in a flood plain they require it for EVERYONE. $472 EXTRA OVER 42 MONTHS FINANCED... THAT SUCKS... Now it is double insured...By the way flood insurance on my house would be $800 a year so they got you by the short hairs..Lucky for Kubota they have their own insurance company. HOW FRICKING INTERESTING...
Small frame width at 42" makes tractor feel like going to tip with loader. Use to 35HP larger tractor feel and stability. It is a trade off for size. Not very stable side to side on inclines. Bought is to go in hilly woods. Not the best at this. Almost tipped twice in 12 hours use. Once used my leg to stop from tipping and I had the loader down. Going to look into weights, filling tires.
If you are looking to move large amounts of dirt all the time you probably want the larger Kubota. This 48" loader is small. If you want to rip stumps out without digging like a backhoe forget it. Even large equipment will not do this. I had a 15K Ford and it wouldnt. It will take some time to dig around each to remove. John Deere has 48 months 0% Kubota 42 months 0% Actually .04% with $112 fees. KUBOTA MAKES YOU HAVE FLOOD INSURANCE SO YOU HAVE TO BUY THEIR INSURANCE. HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE DOES NOT HAVE FLOOD INSURANCE. ADD ABOUT $500 FOR 42 MONTHS!!! Not sure about John Deere financing.
Overall Really runs well. Strong for size. Basically a man trapped in a boys body. KUBOTA FINANCING NOT VERY REALISTIC.. SEE ABOVE.

Implements : FEL, BH, box grader, Ford rake, Post Hole Digger
Purchased From : Southern Tier
Strengths It's small and affordable. I budgeted for a larger tractor, but it take 4 years for an orchard to start making that much work. I'm spend the difference on implements and the like. One strength is that there it has a standard CAT-1 3-point hitch to fit new and used goodies. My wife and I can both operate it, and that's a real plus. (She's short, I'm not.) My driveway is smoooooth now after some passes with the grader and the rack.
Weaknesses Small alternator limits adding lights to the ROPA. Stock 3-point hitch is a pain (aren't they all?), so I'm adding the Harbor Freight quick mount. Small is as small does. I accept that I'll have to do more trips with smaller loads, but I have time and no money...
Overall I have a quarter-mile of gravel driveway, fields, and I'm putting in a small cider orchard. I needed something that my wife could operate for her gardens, and I could use to put up fences, plant trees, grade the drive, and run a brush cutter.
I've added the following since purchase:
- Harbor Freight quick hitch (pn 97214)
- Brush cutter (Deciding on Monday)
Southern Tier has been good to me. The Kubota financing is nice, but it does take away the negotiating for cash... I guess I'll keep it in the bank and make payments!
