Strengths Compared to my 3 previous lawn tractors (from big box stores)this thing seems to be built like a tank. Easy steering with tight turning radius, good speed. First impressions are good.

Weaknesses Havent had long enough to really find its weaknesses, no doubt there are a few, but so far I havent seen any.

Overall I have only just purchased the tractor - found on local Shreveport Craigs list for $2000 and it is apparently in very good condition, with the mower deck having a couple minor problems. The deck was completely clogged with hardened grass clippings. and one scalper wheel was worn badly. Pulling the 48" deck looked to be a real pill of a job - and was! But after getting it off and having familiarized myself with the way it was attached, putting it back wasnt nearly as bad. It IS heavy. Removing the packed in grass 'mulch' was a chore, with hand scraping the largest part and power washing the rest.

Strengths Gas mileage is great compared to my G5200H. 60 inch deck is nice. Very Happy with the 4 wheel steering.

Weaknesses It is slightly harder to steer ironically with the 4 wheel steering and you can't use a roller ball on the steering wheel like I was used to with my old Kubota. But this is a minor weakness for this awesome tractor.

Overall I was lucky enough to find this gem of a Tractor online at a large implement dealer in northern Ohio. The facility obviously didn't know what they had as it was purchased in a liquidation lot that had this tractor and one other riding mower in it. They just wanted to get rid of it and get back to selling their combines. I was able to purchase it for $2100.00 with 495 hours on it. Not a think wrong with it! Truly the steal of the century in my opinion. It runs perfectly and I couldn't be happier with this tractor. It runs like a beast and the diesel engine and heavy duty 60in deck are top notch. It rides smooth and the gas mileage is spectacular. I owned a Kubota G5200H prior to purchasing this G1900S. I would highly recommend this tractor if you come across one in good condition. It took me a couple weeks to get used to the 4 wheel steering and I initially thought I was going to hate it, but after I got used to it I grew to love it and could not go back now.

Strengths Plenty of power with the diesel engine

Weaknesses Taking the mower deck looks like fun more than a one man job.

Weaknesses About that battery eating. Mine had a very slow drain that was a problem in winter.. I put on a battery cutoff switch to disconnect the battery when parked for more than a week and things seem much better.

Overall RUgged. Pain to change mower deck.

Strengths Diesel power plant is smooth and has plenty of torque, always starts. No parts replaced in 16 years other than filters, anti-scalp rollers, bogey wheels, one PTO shaft joint, and one alternator. Bought new in '92 with RC60-G20 deck. Has 800+ hours. Deck is indestructible. Still on original quill bearings only on second belt since new. That's unbelievable. Mowing 2.5 acres sometimes twice a week! Great fuel efficiency, very little vibration to the operator.

Weaknesses Like another review I've read, I have to replace the battery every two to three years even with proper off-season conditioning of the battery. The hood hinges were stamped steel and pretty weak. They gave up a 7 years ago. Been mowing hoodless since as they are an intergral part of an expensive hood. But that's ok, not out for "looks" when I'm mowing. Control module problem requires me to "manually" shut off the fuel for shut down at the solenoid but not a problem: 24" piece of pull wire to the control panel takes care of that! PTO belt is a little complex to change and adjust but no step for a stepper. Deck is so heavily built it is difficult for one man to remove and re-attach but not wearing out is worth it. The four-wheel steering (manual) is a little stiff but a spinner helps a great deal. And being able to cut a 10" circle with a 60" deck still boggles my mind.

Overall If I could find a brand new one still in the crate at the same price I paid in '92, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. It is one of the most reliable and durable pieces of equipment I have ever owned (right up there with my Smith and Wessons, Winchesters, and 1911's).

Strengths Fuel economy. Diesel uses about a third fuel of a gasser. 60" deck cuts really fast on 3" or less grass. No magor problems, runs great. Will push/pull gravel with chains. Grease zerks on most wear points. (except wheels) 3cyl diesel always starts if battery is good. Deck is a battleship. No stamped garbage here. Only replaced blades once so far.

Weaknesses Eats batteries. Can't get more than 2 yrs out of one. Not sure if overcharging/boiling bat or volt leakage. Maybe heat issue as very close to muffler. Brainbox/ignition module replaced when bought. I think its dead again 6 yrs later. Only 2WD. Not many category 0 implements available. 18hp is borderline underpowered for 60" deck in high grass. IMO need 22hp for 60" deck. Deck moderately difficult to remove/attach. Had to replace deck spindle bearings (probably previous owner did not grease regulary) replaced bearings in generator too. Old bearings were not sealed, new superceded ones are. Disabled seat cutoff switch. (annoying)

Overall Very pleased. I have 4 acres. cut about 3 of it. Has worked very well for 7 years. No easy lawn either. Lots of hazards... Got cheap in 2001 as org owner thought pump was leaking. Turns out it was only a loose hyd line to lift cylinder. His loss my gain. Helps to be handy. ;) 400hrs when bought. 625 hrs now. Not sure if new Kubs are cheap'd up yet. Might look at MasFerg or Kioti.

Strengths Tight turning, trouble free, runs and runs, even cut

Strengths It is 10 years old now!Probably the best piece of machinery I've ever owned.Use Schafers Molydenum grease;lighter wt. on spindles&heavier on chassis.Shell Rotella oil.I have 500 hrs.Original belt on mower,and looks like new.I love that 3 cyl. super smooth engine.I use Schaffers lighter wt, grease in my mower gearbox.

Weaknesses Who! Me? No way!Ten years&no sign of belt wear! OH! I do have one.Before I replaced the front wheel bearings,I removed the old ones;drilled thru the wheel,tapped the hole,and placed a grease fitting.Then I removed the inner seal of each bearing. About a tube of grease later,grease started showing at outer bearing.Grease between mowings.Schafers LT WT on mower spindles and through bearing;Hvy Wt all others.I would have worn out several $3000 "junk" mowers,spent many hours fixing them. I feel like the G1900 is part of me..

Overall No complaints!Do they still make the G1900? I don't like the looks of those MTD looking rear ends I saw on a Kubota mower.Kubota. don't try to live on a name; it will catch up with you! Leave MTD alone with the JUNK.
