Overall Ok, this post is a follow up to the one I did on 1/20/09 for the tractor listed (L3540 Cab). If you read the previous post I am commenting about the loud transmission. Finally, after 9 months of this noise I took it to the dealer for a small hose leak on the loader and asked him to evaluate the noise. Everyone at the dealership agreed the transmission sounded loud from the seat. Kubota got involved and the shortest version of this story is as follows. Kubota said to tear it down as it is clearly under warranty. I said I did not want that since this was my second new Kubota cab tractor to be torn down in 3 years, both with less than 100 hours on the clock. I requested they replace the tractor or refund my money since it was a day one problem. They acted like they were considering that. In the end the tractor got torn down into about a thousand pieces and Kubota said they would offer $1,000 to the dealer to change my tractor out. Dealer says,"I dont think so tim". Dealer wants 5 grand to do the deal. Once in the transmission it was determined the trans was flawless. Someone from Kubota decided the cab was rubbing on the top of the transmission and making the cab one big speaker. This person was correct. So, my second new tractor was dismantled to pieces over someone failing to engineer the correct bushing height for the cab mount. If this isn't bad enough, the dealer told me this was the 3rd one Kubota has seen do this as a company. Kubota shipped the dealer a shim kit to raise the cab about 3/8". I returned to the dealer to test drive the unit once it was back together and voila, it is as quiet as a mouse. So, my reward for buying two brand new orange cab tractors in a row is a complete disassembly due to factory ignorance. They keep dangling the new tractor carrot in front of me to keep me quiet for now but I know it is all a smoke screen.
I know it is a machine and they break and that is what warranties are for. But that is clearly not the case, this is two units in a row. See my review for B3030 about a "factory misgrind" on the hydro pump face. I am not trying to get anything for free here. I simply feel that I am a non-compensated guinea pig for their manufacturing errors. There is only one reason Kubota, and every other name brand mfr,is so bold as to basically say "buzz off and quit crying, we fixed it" without any serious regard to my request for replacement or refund is because we the customer puts up with it. This makes me want to go buy green as soon as I get it back, but I know they are worse yet. Now I get to enjoy wondering if every buzz or rattle for the next 20 years is because of the disassembly / reassembly process. What I really need is a good attorney...
Oh ya I almost forgot. This shim thing affects all L3240,L3540 and L3940 cab units made. Be careful if you think yours is loud. It is probably a shim problem. Dont drink the "we need to tear it down" koolaid. It tastes real bad!
