Strengths Bought the 3940 because it was the largest 40 series that would take a MM mower. New transmission is fantastic (a key reason I chose the K over the JD). Engine has plenty of power even on heavy snow in mid range. Cab provides a great dust free, perfect temp, relatively quiet working environment. FEL mounts is <5 min. Very stable mowing sideways (no choice) on some steep hils with optional extra wide turf tires.
Weaknesses Frequently hit my elbow on exposed nut near PTO lever (pretty minor but I did mention it to Kubota rep). Took a day to get used to postioning of hydro pedal close to fender but no problem now. Mounting of the snowblower subframe takes about an hr to install and was a bit of a struggle the first time (use 2 small dollys to move it under tractor). But I was glad to find that I can still use the FEL with the SB subframe attached.
Overall This is my 3rd Kubota and with 11 mo and ~100 hrs this tractor has exceeded my expectations (use for maintaining 17 acres, 9 acres of grass, 1/4 mi drive). I took a hard look at the JD 3720. Both are great machines. Price was roughly the same but the new Kubota trans and my perception after test drives that the 3940 was more stable sideways on hills swung the deal. The L3940 HSTC is one great tractor. [paid about 91% of list on total package of tractor/FEL/SB/Mower plus a few extras thrown in and got 3 yr no interest financing from Kubota]
