Weaknesses Cheap metals make for poor quality, consumable items rack up very quickly, Major transmission problems leading to repair that equal HALF of purchase value??? WTF Being a mechanic and rebuilding this machine myself poor quality, loose tolerences, insane parts costs, lack of information even with the dealers regarding proper part numbers and support, over heats daily, leaks hydraulic oil.

Overall This machine is a ONE WAY TICKET to failure in your business and in your wallet! Dont do it.... Cant say I didnt warn you.

Overall This is a nice machine when it works but my experience has been it is far too unreliable. I bought my first ZD28 4 years ago and had major problems with the hydrostatic transmission. Both drive motors were replaced under warranty which would have cost me $4500. There were numerous hydraulic leaks one of which involved a steel ling blowing out of its housing and leaving a trail of fluid on a customers lawn. I traded this machine at 2 years for the improved model 2 years ago. this newer model has the commercial welded deck and gives a better cut than the stamped deck on my original machine. Unfortunately it has been no more reliable and has had numerous hydraulic leaks which has included replacing the oil cooler. this past season it was down for what seems like half the season for a number of various breakdowns. The left side drive motor seems to be shot at this point as it has about 1/4 the power of the right one. I liked the features of this machine and for the price it seemed a good value, but in hindsight there has been far too much down time. I've got about 1700 hours on this machine and am planning to get rid of it. I won't buy another. Most parts require a 5 day wait which increases the down time dramatically. P.S. Others have mentioned the lack of overheat shut down, mine has a warning horn that sounds when the machine overheats.

Weaknesses Guages cannot be easily monitored while mowing. Engine needs a kill switch for overheating because radiator screen can get clogged quickly when cutting tall grass on windy days. Needs light kit for night-time use. Needs edge of cut guide for 72" deck discharge side. Easily stuck in spring weather due to weight and low rearend overhang. Needs deck lift return to center control to prevent precharge pump damage.

Overall Needs a cab, radio, and AC and the ZD28 would be perfect.

Strengths It is users friendly when it works.

Weaknesses This machine has a major problem with its engine.The engine overheats for no obvious reason and is not repairable.Mine had 195 Hrs just out of warranty and Kubota did nothing! A poor design that does not shut the engine down when overheated.Repair quote $ 5300. The transmission got repaired under warranty.Am I impressed ? NO!

Overall Never again

Strengths Good Engine, deck and frame. Nice blade changing feature.

Weaknesses These machines have a MAJOR flaw with wheel power. It will not turn up moderate inclines. I was warned about this by a commercial mower but I had to see it on a new machine to believe it and it absolutely would not turn nor spin a tire. The dealer verified that the machine met Kubota's specifications before I returned it.

Overall Besides the totally unacceptable wheel power issue above, the cut was not good as it tended to scalp too readily.

Strengths Excellent power, traction which will supprise you, even in wet grass & on hills, controlability... and it's fun!

Weaknesses Dosen't quite have the tractive effort of the front mount 4WD, but darn close. Can't add any other attachments. No light kit available.

Overall Great mower. Highly recommend.

Overall Wow, this is the BMW of Zero Turns. 72" prodeck has fabulous cut! Great torque in high wet grass even uphill. This sucker is 1650+ pounds so it feels as solid as the tank it is. Good thing it's got 28hp diesel with the torque band where it's used at 2500 rpm. Best seat in business. Great controls with positive feel and easy to keep straight. Typical Kubota quality-unbeatable. Hydro deck lift is so nice and truly useful. Parking brake is a bit awkward. Consdidering the diesel is one of the best ever built and very low fuel consumption...this mower is the easy choice for a mower INVESTMENT. Won't be trashed after a 1000 hours like so many competitors.
