Overall Scag Turf Tiger is the best zero turn ever made - I have owned 4 of them. Putting 500 to 700 hours per year on these machines. We are not out there leisurely using these mowers. As far as a wheel motor needing replaced within 100 hours sounds like a defect. When you got the machine repaired, i bet it was replaced under warranty. Home owners who buy these machines need to understand the maintenance of this machine. It has a drive shaft, it is like a car. Needs to be greased, hydro fluid change every 400 hours, unless a home owner every 2 years. The best machine scag builds period. And the rest of are just as good. Do more research when alot of you out there are looking for a new mower. Do your homework. That is why the slogan is Simply The Best.

Implements : spring dethatcher

Strengths Very fast mower, good cut
Weaknesses Needs more maintenance than expected, more expensive too
Overall Bought 72" 27HP unit three years ago as an upgrade from a Scotts (John Deere) 48" 25HP lawn tractor. Scag is faster and very solid and stable on mild slopes, but the Scotts was stronger (e.g., towing a spring dethatcher) and less costly to maintain. Neighbor has same Scag 1 year older, also has had lots of unexpected maintenance. Problems include various components needing to be replaced prematurely, e.g., mine even needed a new wheel motor with fewer than 100 hours.... and we're just homeowners mowing our 10-acre lots as needed.

Strengths C'mon Anon....most people know that zero turn mowers will tear up grass if you really zero-turn them. Like anything, you learn how to use it right. The fact that its possible to zero turn it is why its called that. I had a JD 214 garden tractor back in the mid 80's and it needed about 50 feet to turn a complete circle. These things have come a long way. Don't be so smug. Once upon a time YOU didn't know about zero turn machines either.

Overall This is just a comment to some of the idiots out there who buy these machines.
A lot of people out there think that because these machines say that they are zero turn, means that they can turn around on a dime and not tear anything up. They're a fool if they think that.
Every zero turn machine is going to do that. It's not called zero turn for that reason. It's called zero turn because it turns that way.
It's basic common sense that it would tear up the grass if you have that much weight in one area and spin it around in circles.
I think a lot of these people need to go back to school and actually learn something in life.
I can't believe some of the things that come out of other people mouths!

Strengths compared to some other brands, is well made
Weaknesses really bad at "zero" turning! it tears up the grass really badly. i called the company and asked, "why? and is there some adjustment that might help?" the company man said you have to make "y" turns!!! so then, why is it called a zero turn mower? you can make "y" turns with any mower!
Overall sturdy but the quality of mowing is poor!

Strengths 27 h.p liquid cooled engine has proven strong. The engine has plenty of power in wet grass or when pulling an areator. The mower feels solid even after 700 hours of use.
Weaknesses While cutting wet grass the mower will not discharge well. The mower will leave large clumps when the grass is wet. Only weakness.
