Weaknesses Cutting height!!!

Overall It has a MAXIMUM CUTTING HEIGHT of 3 1/2 FREAKING INCHES! There are FIVE "cutting heights" ......The HIGHEST setting still practically SCALPS my yard. There is no way to get any additional height, and heaven help you if you ever had to use it on a property with grown weeds and high grass. I suspect it would bog and die constantly. Apparently Troy-BIlt is in the business of making Lawn PLOWS rather than lawn TRACTORS!!!!! Sure wish I had done further research before I spent the money!!!!

Strengths Great riding mower at an affordable price. I also own a John Deere D140, but I use my Pony for areas of my lawn that are too sloped, or too small for my larger and wider John Deere. No problem except for a belt slippage about once a year, which is easily fixed.

Weaknesses My year (2003) Troy-Bilt Pony model, does not have a beverage holder.

Overall Wonderful mower at it's designated price point ($1000). Yes, it's not a John Deere, but has acceptable redeaming qualities like affordability, and reliability.

Strengths Can't think of any

Weaknesses Belt keeps falling off - 2+ hours work to put it back on only to fall off again. Muffler broke off in first hour of use. Troy-Bilt refuses to fix - Lowes won't take it back. Uneven cut. Constantly replacing blades - Poor quality machine. Sells under many names - Huskee, Craftsman, YardMan, Cub Cadet, others - All the same piece of MTD junk. Never again! MTD (Troy-Bilt) has useless customer service. Lowes warranty is a waste of paper.

Overall Piece of junk. I will never ever buy any MTD piece of trash again. Wasted $1000.00 plus $40.00 delivery and countless hours trying to keep this hunk of garbage running. John Deere costs more but is clearly worth the money!!!

Overall Piece of Junk. The first day I tried to use this 'tractor', the belt slipped off due to a twig. Got that fix, now the motor has blown up. Just not worth it.

Strengths Easy to run, easy to maintain. I have kept it in my shed out back, and the spiders in there watch over it...Bought a service plan for it, didn't need it.

Weaknesses None that I can think of.

Overall I would buy this again. No frills lawn tractor that does what it needs to do!

Strengths cuts ok after "mods"

Weaknesses keept bending belts. Got a set of mulching belts and installed (they are 3 times thicker). took breaks off the blade spindles (I found they were grapping slowing down the machine) then sped up the motor a little (very little). Before I would get a center line cut, now it cuts ok. I also raised the front of the deck up so it is level. Even with the jam nut, it still slides down. Electronics took a poop, had to bypass them as it was stalling. Gas in oil, had to install 3.00 shut off valve in the gas line. now, it doesn't keep a full charge.

Overall Not happy. this was the first lawnmower I bought after bying my house, would not buy another. John deere or Husquarna for me.

Strengths average riding mower, generally what I expected.

Weaknesses After using this mower a dozen times the belt slipped off the deck, I assumed I had a stick get jammed in belt during mowing, I replaced the belt and then noticed that the main spring between the idler pulleys had been cut off due to the fact that it was installed wrong by factory, causing one of the pulleys to grind it down, when I called cust service,I got a rude individual, who told me I messed up, because I should have had it towed to a service dealer, I will never buy anything from these clowns again.

Weaknesses This machinewont keep blades on it. I have had trouble starting te mower and replaced the battery, key switch etc, still wot start witout using a battery charger. The mower deck can not be adjusted to cut even on a sloped hill, scalps my yard so I set the mower hieght high and have to mow more ovetn. Today the housing on the mower deck that holds the blade and pully belt tore away rom the frame. I'm a 62 year old man that has taken care of my tools and equipment for over 40 years. This is a terrible machine andI would NEVER recomend Troybuilt after this experience.

Overall would not buy this lawnmower again and lowes said that warrenty may not cover this i had a ten year old sears before this pice of junk and it was worn out but still better than my brand new troy built

Strengths Don't know if it has any since we haven't been able to use it.

Weaknesses Bought it brand new from Lowe's in Clackamas, Oregon. Got it home ran in less than 30 feet and there was a bad vibration. Book said to check if blades were put on correctly... then it rained... for days. Finally got to check it out and it was a shaft. Called all over - nobody really cared. Paid $999 for the darn thing and its useless. we live in the middle of no where so it's going to cost a days work just to take the thing back. Totally disgusted.

Overall If you decide to buy this piece of garbage, have the guys where you buy it start it up and run it around to make sure that it's not already broken. I'm extremely disappointed. Customer service sucked. It was like oh well - who cares, we've got your money.
