Strengths Too many too list. My 8526 does not have a single control for the chute, like the others are saying. I have one control to point the chute, and another control to raise/lower it. The8526 is a superior machine, designed to barrel through snow that is very deep. Its front augers are actually two, side-by-side. If one hits and obstruction, a 'shear bolt' breaks to protect the blades. The second auger will continue to run, so you can go ahead and finish the job. The shear bolts are cheap and replaceable in about a minute's time. It's awesome to have a machine with it's own backup plan. Easy start too. After 3 years, I can still start it on the first pull. I've never had to use its electric start feature..

Weaknesses single control joystick does not remain in position, cannot throw snow at 90 degrees of thrower, contacted factory and customer service concerning this issue and they did not acknowledge or agree that this was a design warranty issue,reretro kit to crank auger positioner costed me $70.00..works great now

Overall good buy if you avoid the joystick chute positioner, the cable and pulley system do not permanent lock the chute positioner, many of the newer models do not have this dual action joystick positioner

Weaknesses Single "Joystick" chute control is a terrible design. I would not purchase because of this.

Strengths Good value, electric start, hand heaters on many models.

Weaknesses Watch out for any snowblower with a single stick to control the operation of the chute and angle. Without proper care and lubrication these do not continue to work without major force.

Overall As an MTD dealer, I feel that the troy bilt product offers the best blend of build quality and value of the MTD products. Not all snow blowers are created equal.
