Strengths When it worked it was fast and strong.

Weaknesses The motor exploded after three years. I think it threw a rod but it cracked the crankcase wide open. I a very disappointed in Kohler engines. I guess I will have to go back to my 10 year old Briggs and Stratton, Murray mower. I have to replace it but it wont be a TroyBilt.

Overall Disappointed in only three years of service. It was bought June 2006. Died April 2009

Strengths It has a cup holder.

Weaknesses The mower deck is crap. The thing broke 4 deck belts in the first year. At $40 a pop, that gets expensive. I had to have a bracket rewelded on the deck because of their cheap welding. The voltage regulator died in the second season, another $60. The cheap linkage for the forward/reverse went out of adjustment and it started slipping going forward.

Overall I will never buy another Troy bilt piece of garbage again. Do yourself a favor and pass on these; they used to be a quality machine; but, not now.

Weaknesses The deck is crap!!!! I got on here to see if others were having the same problems. This thing eats belts. Average of 2 per summer and I only mow maybe 3-4 acres a week. Deck is flimsy I wish I would invested more research before I bought one. Now I'm stuck for a few years.

Overall Hate It. Don't buy one. Lowes is fair though. I bought one and returned it after 3 months because the paint was falling off. They didnt care gave me another. Now looking back I wish I would have just gotten my money back.

Strengths Dumb luck! I've had no major problems so far. I use it for the .5 acre around the house and the 3.5 acres in back. I drive over small limbs, gopher mounds, etc. The seat is cracking, the suspension rubber is giving out after six years of use. No problems with engine or transmission; belt still looks good.

Weaknesses For the price, none.

Overall Overall I've been happy with my 2004 SuperBronco. It's done what's required--mowing my 1/2 acre lawn yearround. People complain about the blades failing--I've replaced mine three times but I think nothing of grinding up tree branches with the mower. I tend to find half-buried rocks from time to time so that'll screw up your blades. I've replaced the battery three times but I chalk that up to letting it sit too long with no use. Mine came with a free dump trailer and broadcast spreader. I think I paid $12-1300 at Lowes in 2004

Strengths I was led to believe a Troy-bilt Riding Mower was a good mower. I purchased from Lowes, Florence, SC. Used it one season & it had to be repaired, & again, this time it last four months & parked. The strength should be in the Manuf. I learned at my loss.

Weaknesses I called Troy-bilt more than once. Finally they told me to take it to Lawn Mower Service Co Hartsville SC, they would take care of it. It was torn-down 4/08 to find the problem - Troybilt then refused, leaving Service mgr. & me hanging - caring less of our need. I went there today 11/6/08 to get it. It was torn apart, ran when taken there. I was out a lot of money. Troy-bilt had no care for this customer, due to serious illness in Hosp. months bought a 54" you can know I did not consider Troy-bilt the next purchase - fear I could not trust their word. My $ was good, but They did not look after me, I let their service center have it for $100.00 I had no choice, my health would not allow me to work on it, puting it back together I had to swollow the loss, Troy-bilt could care less!

Overall Needless to say I am discusted with Troy-bilt Corp. They lied to me & the Service center due to their own men on different wave-links. I "had been" a good customer of theirs - NO MORE! Be careful what you buy & from whom! Don't get caught as I did! 42" 17.5 HP. Was a definate lemon! I have sharred this testimony with others. Trust it helpes you in your choice of Mower Co"s

Strengths I like the turning radius it makes tight corners. I also like the way it looks the red paint and all.

Weaknesses I loved this tractor the first six months. This is just a cheap tractor. ($1300) Then the problems started. The first problem was it would pop of of gear. Took it in to the mtd repair place and they found broken gears. MTD said it was abuse. So they did not cover cost me $200 to repair. Next engine started to knock and smoke took it in again. The tech called me in to see the problem. The connecting rod bolts were almost all the way unscrewed. Some drunk or stoned factory tech most have forgotten to tighten or use lock tight. MTD again said abuse and did not cover the cost. Finally Kohler covered it directly. The tech had called them and delt with it very good shop. They replaced the short block for free. Thanks kohler. Next problem belts keep falling off (under warrenty) Problem bad deck bearings they keep seizing and of course its all my fualt says MTD. Now The headlights dont work, the battery wont charge, the engine smokes again. MTD wont cover a damn thing. Lucky I have a good shop to go to. They rebuilt carb and fix a couple wiring problems and the tractor works. All in All MTD Is never getting my business again. The tractor is 2 years old and has been to the shop 5 times and MTD has not paid a dime to fix. What a great warrenty!! My grand dads neibhor had exactly the same problems I have had he got a john deere and loves it. Also a friend of mine highly recommends them a well. His is 6 years old and has never seen a repair shop. I think it is better to spend the money on the front end of the deal. Deere isnt cheap but it beats having breakowns over the years.

Overall Would pay for a quality product the first time. Me 1300 tractor 900 repairs shop time of 4 weeks. Quality 2000-3000 once

Strengths very few this mower is nothing but trouble i have to always replace the belts which by the way cost about 30 to 50 a pop they sell cheap crapy belts to replace the old on with i have replaced the belt 10 times in the past year poor deck alignment pulleys bend and need to be redesigned

Strengths Nice Tractor. Ease of use. Seems to be very dependable. No problems in 4 years cutting 2 acres every week. Solid axles and frame. No cracks, Mower deack is showing wear but still cuts fine. Would like to see a little better deck wheels.

Weaknesses I hate Briggs engines....Lack of power when Mulching. Remove mulching plug and works excellent. Overated HP on these engines. THey may have 12 hp on a good day. I found running Prem. Fuel helps a little but a t 4.00 a gallon, ouch. Two gallons to cut my grass..... Headlights or lack of !!!!! Kind of picky, but hey, its a review ! Blades are junk. Purchase the John Deer blades from Home depot !!! Excellent. Cuts 8 Inches of grass without coming out of high gear. Deck wheels leave a little more to desire....Replaced 2 already. Maybe a couple wheels on the front would of helped.......Take note Troy-Bilt....

Overall Good tractor , changed the belts for blades only in the 4th year..... No mechanical problems as mentioned in other articles. Maybe the newer units are junk but the 2004 model year seems to be strong. Add the 40.00 John Deer Blades from home Depot and cut grass like it should. Worth the extra money. I would prefer a Different motor than the Briggs 21 hp intek. I think they are junk and should not be allowed to install on a lawn tractor !!!!

Strengths This is my forth summer with the Super Bronce and I haven't had any problems. Simple to maintain and I have replaced the blades once. My belts are starting to slip but 4 years into it...I can live with that. More power than I need to cut about an acre of hilly lawn.

Weaknesses I wish it would cut in reverse. It is a pain to stop the blade...back up...shift to forward...start the blade. Also, the original blade was weak..but bought a very good blade and sharpen it every month..no issues now.

Overall I will run this tractor until it dies. Starts every spring after sitting outside a New England winter. Never lets me down....
