Strengths Lots of power and quiet. Its nicer to use because you do not have to mix fuel

Weaknesses Primer bulb cracked after first year. It is un-acceptable to have to buy a complete carburetor to replace a primer bulb (which, by the way would be a simple replacement). There are a lot of trimmers on the market that perform well. I probably would not chose Troy Bilt in the future due to this problem.

Overall Not good. I wasted a lot of time on this trimmer. If you can't get it started, you can't use it.

Strengths Power, lack of vibration, lower noise level, very easy to start. Lots of available attachments.

Weaknesses Three words: Em, tee, dee. Nobody, including the big box HI centers that sell them, carry even the simplest of parts. Also, if anything goes wrong with the carb, you end up replacing it. I had the primer bulb, which is attached to the carb with a screwed-on flange and should cost about three bucks, is not available as a part. Period. You replace the whole carb, though they are very nice and include the new throttle cable (they changed the design since original). Still, $36.50 for a whole carb instead of a simple $3 primer bulb. Fuel line and filter are cheap, too... fuel line crumbled after barely two seasons.

Overall Solid unit, don't pay full price for it.

Overall Either venturi gets clogged or fuel filter in gas tank or something else in carburetor........impossible to find without just replacing parts......

Strengths A powerful string trimmer. Worked well with standard .095 string. Inovative spool design. String can be replaced without removing spool. Works well. Has taken a lot of abuse.

Weaknesses Eats line when used hard. Primer bulb deteriorated in six months. Upper drive shaft broke after 4 years of heavy use. Exploded parts illustrations from MTD drawings incomplete. Does not show an upper flexible driveshaft or primer bulb for the unit. MTD continued to send me the wrong shaft, wrong bulb. I gave up trying to explain to reps.

Overall Thousands of these were sold thru Home Depot. None of the trimmer parts MTD sold at Home Depot, except the spool fit this model. So sad that Troybilt is now part of MTD. I will make sure in the future not to buy garden tools owned or produced by MTD.

Weaknesses Had a two cycle trimmer with Brush cutter. Bought 6/25/05. Worked with it that day for 2 1/2 hours. Today 7/13/05 it would not start, pulling the rope it would not turn over the engine. So today I bought a TB475SS 4 cycle Trimmer; actually traded 2 cycle back as it quit before it's 30 days and upgraded. Preped it per manual; motor started but trimmer would not turn when engine was reved. Called the help line and they recommended I return it as either the clutch or the drive shaft was faulty. Got a total refund, and probably won't buy another Troy Bilt
